LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – In the ongoing effort to make information about publicly funded positions across the state transparent, California Controller Betty T. Yee has released new salary and benefit information through her Government Compensation in California Web site.
The updated information includes 2015 self-reported data for community college districts, fairs and expositions, and First 5 commissions, which Yee's office said includes a total of 142,209 positions and just over $4.05 billion in wages.
The newly published information includes 137,703 positions at 55 community college districts; 3,651 positions at 20 fairs and expositions; and 855 positions at 38 First 5 commissions.
The new information covered the two community college districts that serve Lake County, Mendocino-Lake Community College District and Yuba Community College District, as well as the Lake County Fair and the Lake County First 5 Commission.
Regarding the community colleges, the new data showed that Mendocino College had 730 employees who were paid an average of $21,617 in ages and $6,166 in benefits in 2015. Wages paid systemwide totaled $15,780,355, with total benefits paid at $4,501,485.
The district's top five highest paid positions positions in the district for salary and benefits, respectively, in 2015 were the superintendent/president, wages of $207,822 and benefits of $47,292; vice president of administrative services, $145,145 and $45,179; vice president of instruction, $143,645 and $42,149; interim dean of career and technical education, $134,912 and $33,081; and dean of instruction, $134,841 and $41,311.
The Yuba Community College District – which in Lake County now is known as Woodland Community College – reported 986 employees, with average wages of $29,290 and benefits of $8,142. Total salary and benefits systemwide totaled $28,879,829 and $8,027,964, respectively.
The five highest-paid positions in the district for salary and benefits, respectively, were the chancellor, $234,705, $44,460; the psych tech faculty coordinator in the math and science department, $182,963 and $36,838; president of Woodland Community College, $179,049 and $38,788; business faculty coordinator, $166,211 and $35,717; and the interim dean of math and science at Yuba College, $162,712 and $32,520.
Regarding the Lake County Fair, it reported paying out averages wages of $2,271 and benefits of $78, and total wages and benefits of $204,387 and $7,002, respectively. The fair reported 90 total employees, but less than 10 appear to be are regular workers, with the rest being seasonal in connection to the fair.
The fair's top five paid positions in 2015 were in administration and maintenance, but did not have specific job titles listed. They included, with wages and salary, administration position, $69,123 and $5,295; administration, $24,520, no benefits; administration, $15,603 and $1,707; maintenance, $11,244, no benefits; and administration, $10,605, no benefits.
In other new information, the Lake County First 5 Commission reported paying out average annual wages of $6,600 and benefits of $3,511, with total wages and benefits for the year totaling $65,997 and $35,113, respectively.
Of the 10 positions listed as employees, only two were paid – the executive director and secretary – with the remaining eight positions being uncompensated board members.
The executive director's salary was $30,412 with $18,568 in benefit, while the secretary received an annual salary of $35,585 and benefits of $16,545.
The Controller's Office reported that, in all, 11 community college districts, 37 fairs and expositions, and 13 First 5 commissions did not file the requested reports.
Another six community college districts and two fairs and expositions provided noncompliant reports, meaning they were incomplete, in the wrong format, or received after the deadline and still under review, according to the Controller's Office.
Users of the site can perform a number of functions, including viewing compensation levels on maps and search for compensation by region; narrowing results by name of entity or by job title; building charges; and exporting custom reports or raw data.
Yee's office reported that since the Government Compensation in California Web site was launched in 2010, it has registered more than nine million page views.
The site now contains information on more than two million jobs in California, as reported by each government entity, Yee's office reported.
