Cathy Louise (Stout) Severtsen
Jan. 24, 1952 – Feb. 6, 2017

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – Cathy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and Mima who lived her life to the fullest with vigor and love.

She was born in Cairo, Ill., to George and Virginia (Stone) Stout. The family moved to Manilla, Calif., in 1955 where her father and uncles worked in various mills of the area.

Cathy attended Arcata High School, class of 1969. She attained her C.N.A. license and worked as a caregiver in misc. nursing homes in Humboldt, Mendocino and in Lake County.

Cathy moved to Lake County in the 1990s where she met her husband James R. Severtsen and was wed in 1993. They were happily married for more than 24 years. They raised Darren James Severtsen and Cathy’s granddaughter Kristen M. Bagley.

Cathy was preceded in death by her father and mother; a sister, Sherri Crosby; both grandparents, Carl and Mini Stone; uncle, Junior stone and wife Marline Stone; uncle, Bob and wife Ruby Stone; and her aunt, Patricia (Stone) Clark.

She was also preceded by her son Aaron Ray Bagley and wife Christie, as well as two sons at birth.

Cathy is survived by her son, Daryl Dewayne Odom, and three grandchildren, who reside in Arcata, Calif.; daughter, Jeanette R. Bagley of Arcata; sons, Darin L. Bagley of Arcata and Darren Severtsen of Aurora, IL.; grandchildren, Tim Holt and Jonathan Good of Arcata, Kristen (Bagley) Castanuela (Matt) of Clearlake, Calif., J.D. Severtsen of Aurora, Ill., Michelle Bagley of Sacramento; one beloved great-granddaughter, Kira E. Castanuela of Clearlake; sisters, Debby Stone and Crystal Desadier (Jeff) of Arcata; stepfather Les Desadier of Arcata; uncle, Larry Stone (Carolyn) of Brownsville, Ore.; beloved niece, Shawn Stone of Grants Pass, Ore.; nephew, Chris Landrum and wife Julie of Lakeport, Calif.; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

After a courageous battle with COPD, Cathy passed peacefully at home with her loving husband and niece Shawn Stone at her side.

There will be a graveside service at Kelseyville Cemetery on Bell Hill Road, followed by a potluck celebration of life at the America Legion Hall located on Gaddy Lane in Kelseyville.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – Giving birth at Sutter Lakeside Hospital just got cozier.

As of this month, every baby born in Lakeside’s Family Birth Center will go home with a SleepSack, a wearable blanket that reduces the chance of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.

The SleepSack, which is shaped much like a vest, leaves the baby’s head and arms unrestricted while the bottom of the sack serves as a miniature sleeping bag.

The sleep sack allows the baby free range of motion without the risk of accidentally covering the face or airway with loose material.

Other benefits of the sack include ease of operation, convenience, and guaranteed warmth because of the infant’s inability to kick it off.

“No family should endure the trauma of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome,” said Jackie Rad, RN, Family Birth Center manager. “The SleepSacks can go a long way in preventing loose material from obstructing an infant’s face, which reduces the risk of SIDS. We also educate our patients on the best practices for safe infant sleep, which includes putting the baby to sleep on its back, eliminating excess pillows and blankets in the crib, and not bed-sharing.”

LAKEPORT, Calif. – GW Alridge, 80, son of Henry Alridge Jr. and Savannah Marie (Hemphill) Jones, and loving husband of Linda Alridge, passed away on Feb. 6, 2017, at his home in Lakeport, after a long battle with cancer.

His wife, Linda, and two sons Anthony Bass and Gary Alridge survive him. Two grandchildren Christopher and Demetrius survive him as well as siblings Mary Crawford, Savanna Marie Banks, Dorothy Matthew, Jessie Lee Jones, Cootie May Myers, Archie Paul Jones, Effie May Jones and Glenn Jones, and numerous nephews and nieces.

GW served in the United States Navy for four years.

He also worked for the United States Postal Service for 25 years until his retirement in 1992.

In his younger years he was part of a motorcycle club named The Vagabonds. GW’s favorite past times were playing dominoes, riding motorcycles, and spending time with family and friends. His favorite sports teams were the Oakland Raiders, Oakland A’s, and the Golden State Warriors.

He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Visitation will be held at Chapel of the Lakes Mortuary on Sunday, Feb. 12, from 9 to 11 a.m. Funeral service will follow at 11 a.m.

MIDDLETOWN, Calif. – Gonzales G. Garcia, 82, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 19, 2017, in Middletown.

A native of Knippa, Texas, he lived in Lake County for 30 years. He served his country in the US Army, serving in the 10th Battle Group, 3rd Brigade.

Mr. Garcia is survived by his son, Fred Garcia; daughter, Sandra Fiddler (Sam); two grandchildren, Sam and Christy Fiddler; four brothers, Ernie, Frank, Raymond and Manuel Garcia; and four sisters, Anita Duran, Sally Ruiz, Lucy Brunson and Joann Garcia.

He was predeceased by his brothers, Pete, Tom and Gonzie.

A celebration of life will be held in Middletown at a future date.

Sheri Montea Tibbetts
July 14, 1950 – Feb. 5, 2017

LAKEPORT, Calif. – Sheri passed peacefully at home after a long illness.

She was born in Seattle, Wash., and spent her younger years in Palm Desert, Calif.

When she was 15 she transferred to Indio High School and was immediately spotted by a young boy who she later agreed to marry on Valentine’s Day in 1972. Sheri and Dana were only apart in their 52 years together during his time in the Army.

Sheri attended San Diego State and moved with Dana to Santa Cruz, where she worked as a rehabilitation aid for Goodwill Industries and was active in youth sports and local schools.

Sheri became suddenly ill in 1984, but continued to stay active. Dana and Sheri and son, Dana Jr. moved to Lakeport in 1985.

She loved watching Dana Jr.’s basketball, baseball and soccer games. She loved spending time on the lake and water skiing when she was able.

Despite her failing health she remained positive. Sheri always put everyone else first and had an incredible amount of love for Dana which was and always will be returned.

Sheri is survived by her husband, Dana of Lakeport; son, Dana Jr.; daughter-in-law, Katie; grandchildren, McKenna and James of Citrus Heights, Calif.; sister-in-law, Lana Tibbetts of Citrus Heights; and brother, Monte Wenck of Cathedral City, Calif.

She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, daughter and aunt.

In life, she was a strong, successful woman who worked at the courthouse as the jury commissioner for 10 years.
