MIDDLETOWN, Calif. – Middletown’s vibrant 4-H Club will offer an update on its activities during the past year at the Wednesday, July 17, meeting of the Middletown Luncheon Club.

Luncheon is served at noon in the social hall of the Middletown Methodist Church, 15155 Armstrong.

The Middletown 4-H Club Web site says, “4-H in Middletown began in the beginning of the 20th century to spread the wealth of hands-on learning. During the time that 4-H in Middletown CA came together not many farmers were interested in the new ways of doing things. They wanted things to be the way they were and to not be touched. You have to remember that Middletown California 4-H focused on youth education as the majority of the reason for starting it. They noticed that although the older farmers were not keen on change, the newer youth were completely up for experimenting and had already started to. That is why they started making the rural youth programs to educate them on how to do things properly.”

The club has consistently done things so properly that they bring home major prizes from the county fair and elsewhere.

The Middletown Luncheon Club, which has been a fulcrum of community efforts since 1929, has been a long-time supporter of the 4-H Club and all of its efforts.

Each month, a local service club prepares and serves the Middletown Luncheon Club lunch, for which attendees pay $5, and takes home the revenue and a donation from the club.

This month the 4-H Club will provide lunch as well as the program.

For more information about the Middletown Luncheon Club, or to be a speaker, contact Helen Whitney at 707-928-9812.
