Highway 20

– PG&E of Eureka has been granted a Caltrans Encroachment Permit for tree trimming at various locations from Van Sleeper Road to 1.1 miles east of the North Fork Cache Creek Bridge on Friday, May 20. Work hours are 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 5-minute delays.

– Caltrans will perform routine maintenance from Daws Avenue to 0.3 mile east of Lakeshore Drive beginning Tuesday, May 24. Work hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delay.

– Slide repairs west of Gravel Plant Road will continue. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays. Contractor – Figas Construction of Eureka.

Highway 29

– Metal be a.m. guardrail repair at various locations from the Lakeport Boulevard Overcrossing to the Martin Street Undercrossing will continue. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., weekdays. In two-lane sections, one-way traffic control will be in effect and motorists should anticipate five-minute delays. In four-lane sections, traffic will be restricted to one lane in each direction of travel and motorists may experience minor traffic slowdowns. Contractor – Stewart Dirt and Aggregate of Fairfield.

Highway 175

– Metal be a.m. guardrail repair at 3.0 miles east of the Lake/Mendocino County line will continue on Monday, May 23. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays. Contractor – Stewart Dirt and Aggregate of Fairfield.

MENDOCINO COUNTY

Highway 1

– Slide repair near the Schooner Gulch Bridge will continue. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 5-minute delays. Contractor – Mendocino Construction Services of Willits.

– PG&E of Ukiah has been granted a Caltrans Encroachment Permit for utility repairs near Manchester on Wednesday, May 25. Work hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.

– Storm damage repairs near the Union Landing Viaduct will continue. Work hours are 6 a.m. to 5 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays. Contractor – Valentine Corp. of San Rafael.

Highway 20

– Highway widening from 2.3 to 3.3 miles east of Gravel Pit Road will continue. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays. Contractor – Team Ghilotti Inc. of Petaluma.

Highway 101

– A pavement repair project from the Robinson Creek Bridge to Uva Drive will continue. Traffic will be restricted to one lane in each direction of travel 24 hours per day from 8 p.m. Sunday through 3 p.m. Friday. Motorists may experience minor traffic slowdowns. Northbound ramps at Calpella (Exit 555A) and Route 20 (Exit 555B) as well as southbound ramps at Route 20 (Exit 555B) will be intermittently closed. Motorists will be advised to use an alternate route and may experience minor delays. Contractor – Granite Construction Inc. of Ukiah.

– Paving at the North State Street interchange will occur on Thursday, May 26. Work hours are 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. Northbound traffic will be restricted to one lane. Motorists may experience minor traffic slowdowns. The northbound onramp from N. State Street will be closed. Motorists will be advised to use an alternate route and may experience minor delays. Contractor – Granite Construction Inc. of Watsonville.

– Repair of a slipout from Reeves Canyon Road to Ridgewood Ranch Road will continue. Traffic will be restricted to one lane in each direction of travel 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Motorists may experience minor traffic slowdowns. Contractor – Granite Construction Inc. of Ukiah.

– Painting at the Arnold Bridge Overhead will continue. Work hours are 5 a.m. to 2 p.m., weekdays. Traffic will be restricted to one lane in each direction of travel. Motorists may experience minor traffic slowdowns. Contractor – Certified Coatings Company of Fairfield.

– Culvert repairs near Old Sherwood Road will continue through Friday, May 20. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., weekdays. Traffic will be restricted to one lane in each direction of travel. Motorists may experience minor traffic slowdowns. Contractor – Granite Construction Inc. of Ukiah.

Highway 128

– Caltrans will perform routine maintenance from the junction of Route 1/128 to Flynn Creek Road on Friday, May 20. Work hours are 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. One-way traffic control with a pilot car will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 20-minute delays.

– Slipout repairs 1.2 miles east of Big Oaks Drive will continue. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays. Contractor – Team Ghilotti of Petaluma.

Highway 222

– Replacement of the Russian River Bridge will continue. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control with a temporary signal will be in effect 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Motorists should anticipate 15-minute delays during work hours and five-minute delays at other times. Contractor – CC Myers of Rancho Cordova.

UPPER LAKE, Calif. – Gary R. Means and Tera L. deVroede were announced husband and wife at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 23.

Mother of the bride Lisa deVroede was there along with the bridegroom’s parents, Gary D. Means and Nancy Pankovich.

The couple of eight years was married by Pastor Steve Hernandez on the beautiful Waterscape Deck of The Lodge at Blue Lakes.

A light sprinkle of rain graced the party but overall everything went perfectly. The freshly-painted white, lakeside gazebo was adorned with silk white-rose garlands and bouquets as were the tables and buffet line. The gorgeous view of Blue Lakes served as the main décor.

Amber Marga served as maid of honor, Tabatha Leishman as bridesmaid, Brett Derby as best man and George Didescu as groomsman. The bride's younger brother, Rex deVroede, walked her down the aisle as she clasped her white rose bouquet.

The ceremony was short and sweet and was followed by an Easter egg hunt for all of the children in attendance. The reception's big hit was, of course, the lovely dinner cooked and served by Kenny and Deanna Parlet of Lakeview Supermarket and Deli.

The groom was raised here in Lake County; currently, there are four generations of Gary Meanses alive here locally: Grandpa Gary Means, Gary D. Means, Gary R. Means and the bride and groom’s 2-year-old son, Gary A. Means.

The couple met in Lake County when the bride's family moved there for a brief time.

The bride graduated high school in Las Vegas, Nev., and began dating the groom during her sophomore year after he moved to Las Vegas. Then, she left for college to Pepperdine University in Malibu, Calif.

The young couple endured a long-distance relationship until Means was ready to relocate the following year.

DeVroede earned her bachelor's degree in journalism and returned with Means to Lake County to raise a family. They currently reside in Lucerne, Calif., and plan to reside in Lake County indefinitely. For their honeymoon they plan is to take a seven-night Mexican Riviera cruise on May 22 this year on the Carnival Splendor.

This 15-year-old gelding, named Oliver, is up for adoption at Lake County Animal Care & Control in Lakeport, Calif.

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – Lake County Animal Care & Control is offering a horse for adoption.

The 15-year-old gray dapple gelding is named Oliver.

The cost is $75 for the first approved application.

Animal control officials said Oliver would not be a good horse for a first-time owner, as he is big and can get pushy.

They also have some prior vet records, which indicated a potential issue with soundness.

Oliver was abandoned by his owner at a boarding stable and, in turn, was turned over to Lake County Animal Care & Control.

Oliver can be seen at the shelter, 4949 Helbush in Lakeport.

Any combination of CPR (Adult and Child), AED and First Aid is available on those dates.

The class components include:

• Adult CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) with AED (automated external defibrillator) (Certificate: Adult CPR/AED, valid two years).

• Child and Infant CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) with AED (automated external defibrillator) (Certificate: Child and Infant CPR, valid two years).

• First Aid (Certificate: First Aid, valid two years).

The classes take place on Saturday, June 11, from 9 a.m. to 6:45 p.m. at the Kelseyville Fire Station, 4020 Main St. The cost ranges from $45 to 70 per person depending on the components chosen.

Based on those components, students will learn how to respond to adult, child, and infant emergencies by providing CPR, plus how to deal with cuts, bruises, bone and muscle injuries, shock, bleeding, other first aid emergencies, and how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED).

Fees for CPR, First Aid, or other classes from the local Red Cross goes to help families who've just lost their homes, members of the armed forces and their families, and help the community get prepared and stay safe.
