KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – Artist John Clarke will be present at the Saw Shop Gallery Bistro in Kelseyville during the Kickin’ in the Country street dance on Thursday, July 21, to sign and sell his limited edition fine art poster that promotes the 2011 Lake County Wine Auction.

The street dance, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Main Street in Kelseyville, features the music of the Fargo Brothers; the public is invited to participate at no charge.

Kelseyville Pharmacy is this month’s sponsor and Steele Wines is the featured winery.

Clarke’s original piece of art, “Thankful in Lake County,” has been reproduced by the Lake County Wine Alliance.

Each year the Lake County resident creates a new watercolor-on-silk painting and donates it to the Wine Alliance to be auctioned off during the annual charity event.

Proceeds from the poster sales, at $20 each, will benefit the nonprofit organizations and programs that have been selected as this year’s beneficiaries.

The painting is currently on display at the Saw Shop and will be among special items up for bid during the live auction.

The 12th annual Lake County Wine Auction will be on Saturday, Sept. 17, at Ceago Vinegarden in Nice, which is serving as the host venue for the second year.

Two ticket prices will be offered this year. The Grand Tasting ticket will include an afternoon of wine and food tasting in the Ceago courtyard, a commemorative wineglass and tasting plate, and participation in the silent auction for $75 per person. This portion of the event will begin at 3:00 p.m. and conclude at 6:00 p.m.

The Grand Tasting and Auction Reserve ticket will include all of the items for the Grand Tasting ticket as well as a gift tote, reserved seating for the served, three-course dinner, the live auction, and dancing for $150 per person. This portion of the event will start at 3:00 p.m. and end at 9:00 p.m.

The attire for this year’s charity event is Wine Country chic. Attendees must be 21 years and older. Music in the afternoon will be provided by David Neft on the keyboard. During the evening, entertainers Twice as Good will play for dancing.

The Lake County Wine Alliance is a nonprofit organization of Lake County wineries, winegrape growers, and allied businesses whose mission is to foster the arts, benefit health services, and support the community while promoting Lake County as a premier grape growing and fine wine region.

Tickets are available through the Wine Alliance website, www.winealliance.org, or by calling 866-279-WINE to make reservations.

UKIAH, Calif. – “Trailapalooza,” which had been rescheduled this spring due to concerns about a state outbreak of a deadly equine disease, is back on track for later this month.

The event will take place on Saturday, July 30, at the J Arena in Ukiah, 4800 Burke Hill Road.

It will be a day of fun for the whole family, with a barrel race at 2 p.m., roping at 5 p.m., games and pony rides for the children, snack and beverage concessions, a silent auction, delicious barbecued chicken or ribs dinners, and wonderful bluegrass music from the Redwood Highway Band.

Tickets are just $20 for adults, $15 for riders, and $7 for children 12 and under.

Tickets may be purchased at Willits Furniture, Ukiah Trophy and Rainbow Ag. Tickets purchased for the original Trailapalooza in May will be honored.

Several members of Willits Rotary Club had worked for several weeks with the South Ukiah Rotary Club to bring Trailapalooza to the community. The event originally was scheduled for Saturday, May 21.

The gymkhana had been rehearsed, the food and beverages had been ordered, silent auction items were all lined up, and tickets had been sold. Regrettably, three days before the event it was determined it had to be postponed rather than risk subjecting the horses to the equine herpes virus.

Assurances have been received that the incubation period for the equine herpes virus outbreak has long-since passed. And, of course, humans were never at risk. For additional information about containment of the EHV-1 outbreak, visit the California Department of Food and Agriculture Web site, http://www.cdfa.ca.gov/ahfss/animal_health/equine_herpes_virus.html.

Ever the optimist, Willits Rotarian and Chairman Mike Smith chose to look on the bright side – this would give him more time to sell both admission and raffle tickets and he rescheduled the event for July 30.

The same optimism was recently expressed by Erin Livingston, co-founder of the T.R.A.I.L. Riders Association horseback riding therapy program and beneficiary of proceeds from Trailapalooza.

Livingston indicated that even though the event had to be postponed, she was delighted to report that having heard about their program or read about it in recent articles, four new students joined their program and a physical therapist and psychotherapist had contacted them to assist in the programming.

“These things alone have helped us reach more children, as well as, be able to provide more services in the future,” she said.
