LAKEPORT, Calif. – The Lakeport Yacht Club is excited to announce the sixth annual 2013 Duct Tape Regatta on the Fourth of July in Library Park in Lakeport between First and Third Street.

This event has grown in size and popularity each year the club has had it. It started out as an idea by member Larry Wiggins and others but blossomed into featured articles in travel magazines and a great conversation about activities for the fourth of July.

The race starts at 11 a.m. but be early if you are registering the day of the event to fill out the application.

There will be the following age classifications: 5 to 12, 13 to 18 and 19 to 100 years old.

Important rule: Parents in the boat with their children may not paddle or assist in the movement of their boat.

Also boaters must start and finish in their own boats. The most important requirement is the vessel must only be made of duct tape and cardboard plus everyone must wear life jackets. Permanent markers may be used for identification of the boat only.

CLEARLAKE, Calif. – On May 18, Habitat for Humanity Lake County celebrated their latest new home dedication on 37th Street in Clearlake.

Joined by family, friends, neighbors and volunteers, the Pelayo family was welcomed into their new home.

Habitat for Humanity President Richard Birk spoke briefly about the needs of the community and how each individual could help make a difference in the lives of someone else.

After a brief key passing ceremony where each guest present was asked to lay their good wishes for the family upon the key to the new home, the event was marked by a bountiful meal and fellowship between all.

Said new homeowner Danny Pelayo, “When we put in our application, we never expected something to come out of this. We owe so much to all of those people who have helped get us here. This is a huge blessing.”

If you would like to donate to Habitat for Humanity Lake County towards future builds and repair projects, or to volunteer your time, please contact the Habitat office at 707-994-1100 or come by their office at 16285A Main St., Lower Lake, CA.
