UPPER LAKE, Calif. – Lake County Wine Studio is hosting a wine tasting event featuring the Lake County wine releases from Robledo Family Winery and an artist reception with paintings by Claudia Flood on Friday, Oct. 5, and Saturday, Oct. 6.
The reception will take place from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Oct. 5 and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Oct. 6.
Musical entertainment during the evening receptions will be acoustic guitarist Carey Robinson.
Artist Claudia Flood’s work has been described as “dramatic, bold and colorful.” Her pictures evoke an offbeat style often described in the art world as “whimsical realism.”
She considers herself a “storyteller,” and she uses her brushes and pencils to weave a tale – instead of words, she wants the viewer to look and look again, in the discovery of the story that is before them. She strives to bring an interest that allows one to see something new every time the piece is viewed. She often sketches her subject in “plain air’ and combines her drawings, imagination and a camera’s viewpoint to capture light and aid the creative process.
Flood received her master’s of fine arts degree from the University of Washington. She has shown extensively from San Francisco to Louisville, Kentucky, to showings in recent years at wineries such as Jaxon Keys in Hopland and Kendall Jackson’s Wine Center just north of Santa Rosa. Her paintings have become prized among private art collectors around the country.
Congressman Mike Thompson selected one of Flood’s paintings, “Mendocino County History Makers” to hang in his Washington office and Kendall Jackson selected “Sleeping With Giants” – a piece depicting fabulous tomatoes for their 10th Anniversary Heirloom Tomato Festival, Wilson Winery of Healdsburg, and individual bottle paintings for several wineries participating in the WineSong Charity Auction.
Although the 2012 harvest has begun, owner Reynaldo Robledo, who has become a modern day legend, will join us at the Friday evening reception; relate his epoch story and visit with reception guests.

Robledo Family’s Lake County wines have become quick favorites among fans and wine aficionados. In recognition of their quality and acclaim, their wines have been served in the White House and at the California Governor’s State Luncheon.
The Robledo story unfolds like a best selling novel of achieving the American Dream. From the Michoacán State of Mexico, Reynaldo Robledo came to California in 1968 at the age of 16 to work at Christian Brothers Winery as part of the “Braceros” (strong arms) labor support program between the United States and Mexico that began in 1942 during wartime.
It was not long before he was managing many acres and many men, and in following years, he started his own vineyard management business. Robledo’s current success attests to his hard work, aptitude for learning, interest in grape growing, developed skills, ingenuity, and familial support as each of his children have grown up with “hands on” in the business of grape growing, winemaking and beyond.
The $12.50 ($10/per person for studio club members) wine sampler with paired appetizers will feature Pinot Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, Tempranillo, Petite Sirah and El Rey Cabernet Sauvignon.
There is no charge to those who wish to view the artwork and meet the artists without partaking of the food and wine. Reservations are not required.
Lake County Wine Studio is both a gallery for display of arts and a tasting room, wine bar and retail shop for the fine wines of Lake County.
