LAKEPORT, Calif. – Teens are invited to Lakeport Library’s steampunk jewelry workshop at the library, 1425 N. High St, Lakeport, on Saturday, June 23, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The workshop is one of a series of events in the library’s teen summer program, “Own the Night.”

As with all library events, the workshop is free and all supplies will be provided to create a steampunk pin to wear or attach to a book bag. Teens who haven’t signed up for the program may do so at the workshop.

Steampunk jewelry, which developed from steampunk literature, combines parts and pieces of antique timepieces, skeleton keys, small locks, cogs, gears, compass parts and small brass findings. Insect and octopus motifs are popular touches. This odd blend of parts makes for jewelry that blends industrial and feminine looks.

A very short definition of steampunk literature is Victorian science fiction, fantasy or speculative fiction with steam-powered machines.

Novels like H. G. Wells’ “The Time Machine” and Jules Verne’s “20,000 Leagues under the Sea” are antecedents of steampunk, and current authors continue to write books in this genre.

UKIAH, Calif. – All interested lawful permanent residents (green card holders) can receive free legal assistance with their U.S. citizenship applications at Legal Services of Northern California (LSNC).

The second annual Path to Citizenship Day is on Saturday, July 7, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the offices of Legal Services of Northern California, located at 421 N. Oak St., Ukiah, CA 95482.

LSNC welcomes all who are interested in learning about the naturalization process or applying for U.S. citizenship.

“This is the second year we are hosting Path to Citizenship Day to provide legal assistance for a long and sometimes intimidating process that can prevent lawful permanent residents from pursuing their dream of U.S. citizenship,” said Angélica Millán of LSNC. “Our goal is to create a safe space to ask questions, get answers, and take the next step in becoming a U.S. citizen.”

Appointments are strongly encouraged but are not necessary to attend. For any questions regarding what documents attendees may want to bring, call Millán at 707-513-1026.

Path to Citizenship Day is cosponsored by Assemblyman Wesley Chesbro, state Senator Noreen Evans, Congressman Mike Thompson, Mendo Lake Credit Union, Savings Bank of Mendocino County and North Coast Opportunities Inc.

KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – The Lake County Road Department will be applying a preventative maintenance treatment called fog seal to Gaddy Lane, between State Street and Soda Bay Road, on Thursday, June 7.

This treatment consists of applying a thin coating of oil over the road surface to seal and preserve the pavement.

This material must remain undisturbed for up to eight hours following treatment (depending on temperature and humidity) to allow for proper hardening.

For this reason, Gaddy Lane – from State Street to Soda Bay Road – will be limited to one way traffic control with 30 minute delays between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. on the day the oil is applied.

Please anticipate limited access to properties in the effected area during this time. Also, no street parking of vehicles will be allowed during this same time period.

The following intersections will be open for residents to be able to access their properties:

  • Wendy Lane/Gaddy Lane Intersection: limited access – up to three hour delays.
  • Blue Court/Gaddy Lane Intersection: limited access – up to three hour delays.
  • Clark Drive/Soda Bay Road Intersection: Clark Drive, Terri Lane, Sauvignon Lane, Jeannie Lane, Jamie Lane, and Pharo Place please use this intersection to access property.

During the time road crews are working and until the road oil dries, please do not park or drive on the street or allow children access to the treatment area.
