LAKE COUNTY, Calif. — Few events bring Lake County’s diverse communities together like the Lake County Fair. It is a meaningful part of the annual rhythm of life in our county.

Now, the Lake County Board of Supervisors and the Health Services Department are partnering to offer multiple opportunities for people that get vaccinated against COVID-19 to earn free admission to the fair.

There are four different opportunities to get vaccinated and get your free ticket before arriving at the fair:

— Thursday, Aug. 26, 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.: Lake County Health Services, 922 Bevins Court, Lakeport, serving residents age 12 and over. Parent/guardian consent is required for minors.

— Friday, Aug. 27, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 3 to 7 p.m.: Lower Lake Town Hall, 16195 Main St., Lower Lake, serving residents age 18 and over.

— Monday, Aug. 30, 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.: Lake County Health Services, 922 Bevins Court, Lakeport, serving residents age 12 and over.

— Wednesday, Sept. 1, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.:: Lake County Health Services, 922 Bevins Court, Lakeport, serving residents age 12 and over (OPTUM mobile van).

Additionally, the county of Lake and OPTUM are partnering to provide a mobile vaccination van on-site, each day of this year’s Lake County Fair (Thursday, Sept. 2, through Sunday, Sept. 5).

Get vaccinated and get in for free.

The vaccination van will be set up near the front fairgrounds gate during the following hours:

— Thursday, Sept. 2, and Friday, Sept. 3: Noon to 9 p.m.
— Saturday, Sept. 4, and Sunday, Sept. 5: 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Why get vaccinated?

Unvaccinated Lake County residents age 12 and older were seven times more likely to get COVID-19 in the period from Aug. 1 to 15.

Vaccination has also proven highly protective against severe complications, hospitalization and death from the virus.

UPPER LAKE, Calif. — The Mendocino National Forest Upper Lake Ranger District office will be closed Aug. 25 and Sept. 2 and 3 to support wildfire response and management throughout the western United States.

“We regret limiting our public service at the Upper Lake District office,” Mendocino National Forest Supervisor Ann Carlson said. “But as the state and greater region continue to have critical fire support needs, we’re committed to assisting in any way we can.”

In July, former Forest Service Chief Victoria Christiansen issued a memorandum requesting all Forest Service units prioritize personnel and resources to support wildfire response.

Due to the extreme conditions across the nation and the dynamic nature of mobilizing support resources, the public is encouraged to check the Mendocino National Forest website at www.fs.usda.gov/mendocino for the latest updates on office and forest closures.

For more information or immediate service needs, please contact the Mendocino National Forest’s headquarters in Willows at 530-934-3316.
