CLEARLAKE, Calif. – The Lake County Youth Center will host a community open house on Saturday, Jan. 5.

The open house will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the center, located at 14750 Golf Ave., Clearlake.

Come see the center’s progress and give input on the project and the center’s programs.

NAPA, Calif. – The Napa Valley Elvis Festival will take place on Saturday, March 23.

The festival will be held in the Napa Marriott Grand Ballroom, 3425 Solano Ave.

The Napa Valley Elvis Festival celebrates “Wild in the Country,” which Presley filmed in Napa and St Helena in 1961 with Hope Lange, Tuesday Weld and Millie Perkins.

The day’s events start off at 11:30 a.m. with a showing of “Wild in the Country,” with musician Ian Fraser-Thomson performing at 1:30 p.m.

UPPER LAKE, Calif. – The Blue Wing Saloon will host a New Year’s Eve celebration featuring entertainment and a menu of delicious dishes.

The “New York New Year’s Eve” will take place on Monday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

End the year in style with a special three-course dinner at the Blue Wing featuring music by Paul Kemp and George Husaruk – all culminating at midnight New York time.

Starter choices include celery root bisque with lobster meat or baby spinach salad with pancetta croutons, pecans and dried cranberries with a warm cranberry vinaigrette.

Entrée choices include pan seared sea bass on a cauliflower purée with a leek buerre blanc and a saffron infused oil; grilled filet mignon with a pink peppercorn “au poivre” on a parsnip purée topped with crispy onions; tender duck breast on a yam purée and a brandied cherry reduction; or tricolor asparagus ravioli in a lemon-scented butter sauce.

Housemade dessert offerings include chocolate and vanilla swirl crème brûlée, champagne mousse in a phyllo cup with red raspberries or apple gallette topped with a frangelico creme fraiche and toasted hazelnuts.

MENDOCINO COUNTY, Calif. – Caltrans said additional repairs to a washout on Highway 162, about 1.7 miles east of Highway 101 near Covelo, will require a 24-hour full road closure.  

The closure will begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2, and continue through 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 3.

Motorists are advised to seek an alternate route.  

The closure is required to lengthen the culvert installed during initial emergency repairs and will allow the highway to be widened back to two lanes over the next few weeks.

LUCERNE, Calif. – The Lake County Democratic Club will hold its regular meeting at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, in the Rose Room of the Lucerne Alpine Senior Center.

Lake County Democratic Club meetings are held on the second Saturday of the month at noon at the senior center, located at 3985 Country Club Drive, corner of 10th and Country Club Drive, in Lucerne.

KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – Cub Scout Pack 145 of Kelseyville sends a big “thank you” to the Kelseyville Pear Festival Committee for its generous donation of $350 to the pack.

The Cub Scouts are so thankful for this generous donation and have already earmarked the funds for a new Pinewood Derby track.  

Cub Scouts are for boys in the first through fifth grades.

Cub Scout Pack 145 meets on the third Friday of every month at 6 p.m. at the Kelseyville Presbyterian Church, 5340 Third St.
