Sons In Retirement group holds first meeting of 2013
LAKEPORT, Calif. – Branch 168 of the Sons In Retirement (SIR) held the first meeting of 2013 in the banquet room at Konocti Vista Casino.
Big Sir Dean Faris announced that the February luncheon will be a celebration of Valentine’s Day and members’ wives or significant others are not only invited but SIRs will pick up the cost of their meal. Jim Cary will be the DJ and provide music for easy listening and dancing.
Faris also reported that there is a wide range of activities on the drawing board for the coming year.
Cary, the golf chairman for branch 133 and 168, distributed the 2013 golf schedule. Starting April 10 and continuing thru Nov. 6, there will be local tournaments just about every other week.
In addition, there will be two out of town tournaments. The first will be in Reno June 11-13, and the second takes place in Monterey Sept. 24-26. The award for most improved golfer of 2012 went to Ken Hommer, who the club congratulated on his achievement.
Bob Specht, the travel chair, announced that the snow train was a sellout and talked about some of the upcoming trips including plans to visit the Terracotta Warriors exhibit in San Francisco, a day at the races, and a trip to Palm Springs.
The Palm Springs trip will include the “Fabulous Follies,”, a visit to the Military Air Museum, a ride on the aerial tram and, of course, an optional round of golf. Specht said he is also working on several other trips.
