LAKEPORT, Calif. – The Lake County Channel Cats swim team will host its Family Bingo Night on Saturday, March 17.

The fundraiser's doors will open at 4:30 p.m. with games beginning at 5 p.m. at the Lakeport Senior Center, 527 Konocti Ave.  

The cost for an adult is $15 for a pack of 12 games and $5 for children accompanied by an adult.  

Food will be available, including hamburgers, hot dogs, a variety of snacks and a bake sale.  

All proceeds will support the Clear Lake/Kelseyville High School swim team and the Westshore Pool.

KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – The U.S. Coast Guard Flotilla 88 of Lake County will meet on Saturday, March 17.

The meeting will begin at 9 a.m. at the Konocti Bay Sailing Club building, located at Braito's Marina, 1555 Eastlake Drive at the end of Buckingham Peninsula.

COBB, Calif. – The beautiful pine grove at the Moore Family Winery will be the setting for a wine tasting to raise funds for the Children's Museum of Art and Science (CMAS) on Saturday, April 21 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Music will be provided by Saro and Reikor Deacon's group, “From the Heart.”

Delicious hors d'oeuvres will be created and served by the students of the Yuba College Culinary Arts Program.

A variety of prizes from generous community members and businesses will be part of a raffle.

The Moore Family Winery has also donated a “concert package” as the grand door prize.

Tickets are only $15. and are available at The Travel Center in Lakeport, Marie's Feed in Clearlake, and Mt. High Coffee in Hidden Valley and Cobb. You also can obtain tickets by calling 707-994-2878.

CMAS will use the proceeds from this event to support its annual art and science camp and its fledgling robotics program.

In the last five years over 600 fourth through sixth graders from throughout the county have participated in the science camps.

This year's camp will take place on Saturday, May 12, at the Ely Stage Stop and the Taylor Observatory.

The camp is a collaborative effort with the Lake County Office of Education, the Lake County Historical Society and the Redbud Audubon Society.

CMAS also partnered this year with the Konocti Unified School District to develop a pilot robotics program at Lower Lake Elementary, and purchased Lego robot kits and student laptops which are available for classes to use.  

The group also is offering Saturday workshops with the robot kits on Saturday, March 10, and Saturday, March 17, for students from the district's K-8 schools to become acquainted with the materials and generate discussions as to how robotics experiences can be brought to all district sites.

CMAS is a volunteer nonprofit group with members from throughout the county. Its goal is to provide free hands-on art and science activities and events for the youth of Lake County.

KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – The Konocti Lioness Club will return to Riviera Hills Restaurant for its meeting on Thursday, March 15.

The luncheon meeting will begin at noon.

The restaurant is located on 10200 Fairway Drive in the Clear Lake Riviera, Kelseyville.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – The 21st annual Friends of Mike Thompson Ravioli Dinner will take place on Saturday, March 31.

The dinner will be held from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Lake County Fairgrounds, 401 Martin St., Lakeport.

They will feature a fantastic tasting of wines from the Lake County Winegrape Growers. This is a wonderful opportunity for the Lake County wineries to show case the great wines coming from of Lake County.  

This event would not be complete without the music from the “Public Nuisance” band.

Free electronic recycling will be available at the event from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. It is time to clean out closets and get rid of the old cell phones, computers, fax machines and all outdated electronics.  

They are once again excited that the Computer Recycling Center will be giving four newly refurbished Intel Core Duo/Dual Core Windows Desktops, with new keyboard, cables and mouse, and refurbished LCD flat panel monitor to four nonprofit organizations.

Nonprofits that wish to apply for the computers must bring a letter on their organization’s letterhead, addressed to Steven Wyatt. The letter must include your 501C3 number, and a short explanation as to how the computer will be used by the organization.

The event organizers will continue efforts to create an event with zero waste by using corn starch and sugar cane plates, and utensils.

“Our goal is to have the waste generated by the event to be as close to 100 percent recyclable or reusable,” said Campaign Events Coordinator Mary Jane Bowker.  

Thompson was elected to Congress in 1998. Prior to that time, he represented Lake County for eight years in the California Senate

Tickets for the pasta dinner are $20 for adults, and $5 for children under 12 years.

Tickets can be purchased in advance or at the door the day of the event.

NORTH COAST – Caltrans reports that the following road projects will be taking place around Lake County during the coming week.

Included are Mendocino County projects that may impact Lake County commuters.

LAKE COUNTY

Highway 20

– AT&T of Eureka has been issued a Caltrans Encroachment permit for utility relocation at Nice-Lucerne Cutoff. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.

– Metal beam guardrail repair from 0.8 mile west to 0.8 mile east of New Long Valley Road will continue through Friday, March 9. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays. Contractor – Stewart Dirt and Aggregate of Fairfield.

MENDOCINO COUNTY

Highway 1

– PG&E of Santa Rosa has been issued a Caltrans Encroachment permit for utility work just north of Gualala. Work hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., weekdays. A shoulder closure will be in effect. Motorists are advised to drive with caution through the area and may experience minor traffic slowdowns.

– Caltrans will perform routine maintenance at the Garcia River Bridge beginning Thursday, March 15. Work hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should
anticipate five-minute delays.

– Replacement of the Greenwood Creek Bridge will continue. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays.

Highway 101

– Caltrans will perform routine maintenance at the Russian River Bridge on Tuesday, March 13, and Wednesday, March 14. Work hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.

– PG&E of Ukiah has been issued a Caltrans Encroachment permit for utility repairs 0.2 mile north of Ryan Creek Road on Friday, March 9. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.

Highway 175

– Caltrans will perform routine maintenance from the junction of Routes 101/175 to the Lake/Mendocino County line beginning Monday, March 12. Work hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays.

Work on all these projects is weather permitting and subject to change. Caltrans advises motorists to drive with caution when approaching work areas and to be prepared to stop at traffic control stations.

The Caltrans Traffic Operations Office has reviewed each project and determined that individual project delays are expected to be less than the statewide policy maximum of 30 minutes, unless noted otherwise above.
