MIDDLETOWN, Calif. – The Middletown ICE girls AAU basketball program is celebrating its fifth year of competition.

They have grown from a single team in year one to a projected four teams this season. The ICE (Intensity-Concentration-Execution) team travels to tournaments throughout Northern California and culminates the season at the JamOnIt event in Reno, Nev., where last year over 740 teams from all over the west participated.

The girls get to experience a much higher level of play, meet new friends, and gain valuable life-skills.

All of the ICE players are south Lake County residents from Middletown and HVL and play in local youth leagues and/or school teams during winter basketball season. ICE provides the best local talent an opportunity to “take it to the next level.”

The group is raising money by selling reflective address signs.

These address signs have been approved by HVLA and fully comply with their CCRs.

The fundraiser will enable the program to have starter money needed to pay tournament and equipment fees.

Order forms are available on the club Web site www.middletownice.com . Just fill out the second page and mail to the return address listed on the flier. Residents can also learn more about the program on the Web site.

The cost is only $20 for each marker – freight included.

Address markers make great gifts, and also can help first responders find homes in times of emergency.

Please make checks out to Middletown ICE and mail to 16873 Hawks Hill Road, Hidden Valley Lake, CA 95467.

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – The Clear Lake Trowel & Trellis Garden Club recently honored President Leanne Harvey with the highest honor presented by the club – a Penny Pines Certificate.

According to Club Penny Pines Chairman Ann Blue, 15 National Forests in California participate in the Penny Pines Program, accepting donations from local garden clubs.

The donations are combined with federal funds to reforest areas damaged by fire or other natural causes.

Each donation goes toward planting approximately one acre with up to 350 seedling trees, depending upon the area, and this is referred to as one “plantation.”

The club has chosen to send their donations to the Mendocino National Forest.

Any group or individual can purchase a “plantation” in someone’s name as a gift; for more information about how to do this, contact Ann Blue at 707-263-5854.

The Clear Lake Trowel & Trellis Garden Club meets at noon the third Tuesday of every month – except July and August – at the Scotts Valley Clubhouse, 2298 Hendricks Road, Lakeport, and anyone interested in gardening and civic beautification and philanthropic projects is invited to attend.

Clear Lake Trowel & Trellis Garden Club is a member of the Mendo-Lake District, California Garden Club Inc., Pacific Region and National Garden Clubs Inc.
