LAKEPORT, Calif. – The American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Lake County is just two months away, and a special event on Wednesday, March 12, will focus on team registration.

The meeting will take place from 6 to 7 p.m. in room No. 5 at Terrace Middle School, 250 Lange St., Lakeport.

Relay For Life is a family-oriented event. Participants camp out at the relay site, and when they are not taking their turn walking, they take part in fun activities and enjoy local entertainment.

The event helps communities celebrate those who have faced cancer, remember loved ones lost and fight back against the disease.

This year's Relay for Life will take place at Clear Lake High School in Lakeport on Saturday, May 17, and Sunday, May 18.

LUCERNE, Calif. – The California Senior Legislator workshop and luncheon will be held on Thursday, March 20.

The event will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Lucerne Alpine Senior Center, 3985 Country Club Drive.

Join them and welcome their guest speaker, Senior Assembly Member Lauren Rolfe of Solano County.  

Rolfe will discuss changes, events and give updates of what the California Senior Legislature plans to continue doing to improve the quality of life of seniors living in Northern California.  

Lunch menu of beef Stroganoff will be available for a small donation.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – The Scouts of Lake County have created a carnival of crazy games and great food for Saturday, March 8.

The event will take place from noon to 5 p.m. in Lewis Hall at the Lake County Fairgrounds at 401 Martin St. in Lakeport.

Join them for spin art, a cake walk and car bashing, or try the toilet bowl toss and the rubber chicken fling.

Door prizes include a used car from Guy Strohmeier's Auto Center, a recliner from Allen's Furniture, photo art by Lyle Madeson, a steel rolling ball sculpture by Matt Gaulden or 30 other door prizes.

Admission is free.

"Script" (activity) tickets are five for $1. Presale tickets are $1 and include a $2 off coupon at most Lake County Pizza Parlors.

NORTH COAST, Calif. – Caltrans reports that the following road projects will be taking place around the North Coast during the coming week.

Included are Mendocino County projects that may impact Lake County commuters.

LAKE COUNTY

There is no major roadwork scheduled for Lake County from Friday, March 7, through Thursday, March 13.

MENDOCINO COUNTY

Highway 1

– Bridge repairs at the Garcia River Bridge will continue. Work hours are 24 hours per day, weekdays. One way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.

– Replacement of the Greenwood Creek Bridge will continue. One-way traffic control with a temporary signal will be in effect 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Motorists should anticipate seven-minute delays.

– Bridge repairs at Blue Slide Gulch will continue. Work hours are 24 hours per day, weekdays. One way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.

– Replacement of a culvert with a bridge at Dunn Creek will continue. One-way traffic control with a temporary signal will be in effect 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.

Highway 20

– Bridge repairs at the East Fork Russian River Bridge will continue. Nighttime work hours are 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., Sunday evening through Friday morning. One way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.

– Bridge repairs at the Cold Creek Bridge will continue. Nighttime work hours are 6 p.m. to 11 a.m., Sunday evening through Friday morning. One way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.

Highway 101

– Caltrans will perform slide repairs near the Korean War Veterans Memorial Bridge (near Frog Woman Rock). Northbound traffic will be restricted to one lane 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Motorists may experience minor traffic slowdowns.

Highway 222

– PG&E of Ukiah has been issued a Caltrans Encroachment permit for utility repairs near the Ron Ledford Memorial Bridge through Friday, March 7. Work hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., weekdays. A shoulder closure will be in effect. Motorists may experience minor traffic slowdowns.

The Caltrans Traffic Operations Office has reviewed each project and determined that individual project delays are expected to be less than the statewide policy maximum of 30 minutes, unless noted otherwise above.

UPPER LAKE, Calif. – The Tallman Hotel in Upper Lake will host a series of winemaker dinners this spring.

The dinners will be held on three Saturdays – March 8, April 5 and May 3.

Enjoy wonderful Lake County wines and great food pairings in the intimate atmosphere of the
Lake County Wine Studio and the beautiful Tallman Hotel Dining Room.

The March 8 event will feature Brassfield Estate Wines with guest chef Mark Linback, with Linback also preparing the April 5 dinner with Rosa d'Oro Wines.

May 3 will present Laujor Estate wins with guest chef Rosemary Martin.

The events start at 5:30 p.m. with appetizers paired to the featured wines at the Lake County Wine Studio with new art and host Susan Feiler.

At 6:30 p.m., adjourn to the Tallman Dining Room for a delicious paired dinner prepared by that night's guest chef.

The cost per person for each event is $75.

Seating is limited to 30.

UPPER LAKE, Calif. – The Upper Lake 4-H Club will hold its annual tri-tip dinner fundraiser on Saturday, March 8.

The dinner will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Upper Lake Grange Hall, 9355 Government St.

The cost is $10 per ticket. Children under age 5 may eat for free.
