LAKEPORT, Calif. – The Lake County Arts Council's painted wine bottles fundraiser has been a great success, and bottles are still available.

Local artists painted the bottles as a unique way to raise funds for the council.

The council said the remaining bottles are now on clearance, priced from $5 and up.

A good selection is still left of the bottles, which the arts council said make great gifts.

NORTH COAST, Calif. – Janie Rezner's guest on KZYX's “Women's Voices” on Monday, Dec. 19, will be Leymah Gbowee, recent Nobel Peace Prize recipient, whose story was told in the 2008 documentary, “Pray the Devil Back to Hell.”

Gbowee, a young woman and trauma counselor in war ravaged Liberia, which was under the control of monster Charles Taylor and his armies of child soldiers, in 2002 organized the Women of Liberia Mass Action for Peace.

“In the past we were silent, but after being killed, raped, dehumanized, and infected with diseases, watching our children and families destroyed, war has taught us that the future lies in saying NO to violence and YES to peace! We will not relent until peace prevails,” she said.

Under her leadership, the women managed to force a meeting with Taylor and extract a promise from him to attend peace talks in Ghana.

Their movement brought an end to the Second Liberian Civil War in 2003, and led to the election of Ellen Johnson Sirleaf in Liberia, the first African nation with a female president.

The show will begin with Mary Beth Brangan of The Ecological Options Network as they continue their conversation from last month focusing on Smart Meters, Social Security and Full Spectrum Dominance.

“Women's Voices” can be heard live at www.kzyx.org at 7 p.m. Pacific time. There will be time for call-ins.
