CLEARLAKE, Calif. – A raffle and bake sale to benefit the family of David Ferrell will be held Saturday, Oct. 19.

The event will take place from noon to 3 p.m. at Ray's Food Place, 15930 Dam Road in Clearlake.

Ferrell was fatally shot on Sept. 8 as he stood outside of his Clearlake home.

Police say he was an innocent bystander; the murder suspect had been looking for another man before beginning to shoot randomly.

Ferrell has left behind a wife and four children.

On Saturday, raffle tickets will be on sale for $2 each or six for $10.

CLEARLAKE, Calif. – A caregiver support group for families dealing with memory loss or other cognitive impairments will meet on Wednesday, Oct 23.

The group meets at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 14310 Memory Lane in Clearlake from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Social worker Jenny Johnson is the facilitator.

The groups are sponsored by Redwood Caregiver Resource Center (1-800-834-1636) and the Social Day Programs in Lake County.

LAKE COUNTY

Highway 53

– Highway widening and rehabilitation from Crawford Avenue to the junction of Routes 20/53 will continue. Work hours are 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays. Contractor – Teichert Construction of Davis.

Highway 175

– AT&T of Santa Rosa has been issued a Caltrans Encroachment permit for utility repairs from Anderson Springs Road to Santa Clara Street. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.

MENDOCINO COUNTY

Highway 1

– Guardrail repairs at various locations from Pirates Drive to Navarro Ridge Road will continue through Friday, Oct. 18. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays. Contractor – Coral Construction of Wilsonville.

– Replacement of the Greenwood Creek Bridge will continue. One-way traffic control with a temporary signal will be in effect 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays. Contractor – Golden State Bridge Inc. of Martinez.

– Pavement repairs from 0.6 mile north of the junction of Routes 1/128 to the Albion River Bridge will continue. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays. Contractor ‐ Granite Construction of Ukiah.

– Replacement of a culvert with a bridge at Dunn Creek will continue. One-way traffic control with a temporary signal will be in effect 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays. Contractor ‐ Shasta Construction of Redding.

Highway 101

– Caltrans will perform slide repairs near the Korean War Veterans Memorial Bridge (near Frog Woman Rock). Northbound traffic will be restricted to one lane 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Motorists may experience minor traffic slowdowns.

– Destination Hopland has been granted a Caltrans Encroachment Permit to hold the Hopland Passport event on Saturday, Oct. 19, and Sunday, Oct. 20, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Brief intermittent closures will be in effect to allow for pedestrian crossing. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.

– Northern Aggregates Inc. of Willits has been issued a Caltrans Encroachment permit to add turn lanes just south of Black Bart. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., weekdays. Traffic will be restricted to one lane in each direction of travel. Motorists may experience minor traffic slowdowns.

– PG&E of Santa Rosa has been issued a Caltrans Encroachment permit for utility repairs just north of the UPP Creek Bridge. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.

Highway 128

– Navarro Ranch of Philo has been issued a Caltrans Encroachment permit to install a driveway near Philo Greenwood Road. Work hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.

Work on all these projects is weather permitting and subject to change. Caltrans advises motorists to drive with caution when approaching work areas and to be prepared to stop at traffic control stations.

The Caltrans Traffic Operations Office has reviewed each project and determined that individual project delays are expected to be less than the statewide policy maximum of 30 minutes, unless noted otherwise above.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – The Lake County Fair Board will meet on Monday, Oct. 28.

The meeting will begin at 4:45 p.m. at the administration office at the Lake County Fairgrounds, 401 Martin St., Lakeport.

Action items include include approval of the 2014 facility rental rates and refund of a $35 entry fee to Jamie Canada.

There also will be committee reports, appointment of a nominating committee, discussion of the November calendar of events and an invitation from the Napa County Fair.

LAKEPORT, Calif – The Lake County First 5 Lake Commission will hold a regular meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 23.

The meeting will begin at 2 p.m. at the Mendocino College Lake Center campus, 1005 Parallel Drive, Lakeport.

Committee updates will include revision of vision and mission statements, and a report from Lake County Superintendent of Schools Wally Holbrook on the task force.

The commission will hold public hearings to review and accept the annual financial and program audit for fiscal year 2012-13, and review and approve the local annual data submission to First 5 California.

In other business, the commission will review and accept the annual evaluation report prepared by C.A. Ferron Associates.

There also will be commissioners' reports and the report from Executive Director Tom Jordan, and public comment and announcements.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – Blanka Doren’s art students once again showed their exceptional talents at the Lake County Fair this past Labor Day weekend by winning a total of 14 awards out of 27 entries for their paintings.

Doren is a talented artist who loves to give back to the community in many ways, one of them by teaching art. She teaches painting in all types of mediums, including oils and acrylics.

This year’s entries displayed the talents of some of our local artists who are attending her class.

Of the artists who entered paintings in the Lake County Fair, Doren had seven students who entered a total of 24 paintings, with those paintings winning a total of 13 first places, six second places, two third places and one best of show.

Those artists who received artists are Charlene Coakley, Blanka Doren, Terry Durnil, Judy Labelle, Lorraine Martin, Steven Martin, Arline Montgomery and Jack Southwick.
