LAKE COUNTY, Calif. — In the past, the Konocti Women’s Service Club has donated to elementary schools several boxes of school supplies for the students and teachers to use.

When considering the teachers’ tremendous and important job, the club decided that these teachers also need a break.

The club members gathered teas, nutritional snacks and other goodies and on April 19 several baskets and bags of these items were delivered to the teachers’ break rooms at Riviera Elementary, Kelseyville Elementary and Mt. Vista Elementary schools.

Many offered their gratitude with Konocti Women’s Service Club returning the thank you to the teachers for all they do for the children.

The club’s motto is ”For Kid’s Sake.”

MENDOCINO NATIONAL FOREST, Calif. — Officials with the Mendocino National Forest said that Forest Road M10, which earlier this month was closed due to a mudslide near the Dixie Glade Campground, has been cleared.

The mudslide, which had closed the road about a quarter mile west of Fouts Springs, was triggered by April’s storms.

The forest reported that the Letts Lake Campground remains closed for maintenance.

Unstable terrain is one of several hazards in a burned landscape.

Post-fire areas are subject to landslides, rockfall, erosion, debris flows and flooding in heavy rain, snow or wind. There are also likely multiple downed trees across roads and trails.

LUCERNE, Calif. — The Northshore Ready Fest, a community preparedness event, will be held on Saturday, April 30.

It will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 6264 E. Highway 20 in Lucerne, at the corner of 11th Avenue and Highway 20.

Join them for a day of readiness. Get to know some of the Northshore firefighters and community organizations that are great resources in preparing for emergencies.

Learn how to help your family, friends and community to be a safer place and to be ready for
potential public safety power shutoff events or evacuation needs.

Be informed by learning about evacuation checklists, evacuation zone codes, Firewise communities, fuel mitigation, fire safety and awareness, defensible space and home hardening.

There will also be two sessions to learn cardiopulmonary resuscitation, one at 10:30 a.m. and the second at 1 p.m.

Golden State Finance Authority, or GSFA, has announced new homebuyer assistance, effective immediately, for GSFA member county employees purchasing or refinancing a home in the same county of their employment.

The GSFA member county “assist-to-own” feature, built into the existing GSFA Platinum Program, provides down payment and closing cost assistance, or DPA, up to 5.5%, combined with attractive first mortgage interest rates.

The primary DPA for the member county “assist-to-own” feature is provided in the form of a 3.5% deferred second mortgage.

The second mortgage has a 0% interest rate, which means no interest is accrued on the second mortgage and no monthly payments are required. The second mortgage is due and payable upon sale or refinance of the first mortgage.

Additional DPA is available in the form of a gift, up to 2%, for a total of up to 5.5% in DPA for eligible borrowers.

Program Highlights:

• Attractive interest rates on the first mortgage.
• FICO Score requirements as low as 640.
• Debt-to-income ratios up to 50% allowed.
• No first-time homebuyer requirement.

“The cost of housing can create significant barriers for employees to live in the community in which they work and for local governments to recruit and retain a sufficient workforce,” said GSFA Board Chair and Tehama County Supervisor Bob Williams. “The aim of “assist-to-own” is to help reduce these barriers and strengthen the local government workforce by improving the ability of county employees in GSFA member counties to purchase or refinance a home within the jurisdiction of their employment.”

To be eligible for the member county “assist-to-own” feature of GSFA Platinum, borrowers must be employed by one of the GSFA member counties and purchase or refinance a primary residence in the same county.

GSFA member counties are as follows: Alpine, Amador, Butte, Calaveras, Colusa, Del Norte, El Dorado, Glenn, Humboldt, Imperial, Inyo, Lake, Lassen, Madera, Mariposa, Mendocino, Merced, Modoc, Mono, Monterey, Napa, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, San Benito, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Shasta, Sierra, Siskiyou, Sutter, Tehama, Trinity, Tulare, Tuolumne, Yolo and Yuba.

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. — On Friday, April 22, the county of Lake published a new grant opportunity, for individuals that have experienced negative effects due to criminalization of cannabis.

Cannabis Local Equity Program grants are made possible through the partnership of the California Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development, or GO-Biz.

The primary focus of the initial funding round will be direct grants. These will be prioritized through awards to smaller cultivators first.

There are additional programs referenced in the application that are not currently operational. If you are interested in those, we encourage you to apply and complete the relevant sections.

Providing this information will help the county partner with the state to establish demonstrated interest and need as future funding is available and program expansions are considered.

Please also note, demographic information requested on the county’s grant application is required pursuant to State-established guidelines for this funding opportunity.

Gathering this data is intended to ensure equitable access to funds, over time, by all eligible Californians.

Lake County’s Cannabis Local Equity Program was developed in response to California Senate Bill 1294, the California Cannabis Equity Act of 2018.

Through interviews and data, the Lake County Cannabis Equity Assessment identified the populations and neighborhoods most affected by the criminalization of cannabis in Lake County. The county’s assessment found small growers, for example, were disproportionately affected by past policies.

The findings of the cannabis equity assessment were then used to create the program's equity eligibility requirements, which are outlined in the local equity program manual.

Additionally, the local equity program manual outlines services available to those who meet the eligibility requirements. The program implements state of California and county of Lake legislative goals to further equity among those impacted by the criminalization of cannabis.

Program details and funding

The Lake County Cannabis Local Equity program provides services to individuals, not businesses, who have experienced negative effects due to the criminalization of cannabis.

Applicants must meet eligibility criteria as outlined in the county of Lake Local Equity Program Manual. Funds are intended to assist those deemed “equity eligible” to enter into, or remain in, the commercial cannabis marketplace.

The county of Lake is administering the Cannabis Local Equity Program through grants received from California Governor's Office of Business and Economic Development.

Lake County’s total allocation from the GO-Biz for this round of equity grants is $2,829,294.90. Grant funds will be used to supply services to those meeting eligibility criteria, as defined in the updated Lake County Local Equity Program Manual.

Eligible equity applicants may initially qualify for up to $25,000, unless otherwise indicated, or until funding is fully exhausted. Additional funding may become available.

Submission deadline for all applications is 5 p.m. PST on Friday, May 27, 2022.
