LAKEPORT, Calif. – The Clear Lake Trowel & Trellis Garden Club will hold its general meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 21.

The meeting will be held at the Scotts Valley Women's Club House, 2298 Hendricks Road, Lakeport.

The board will gather at 11 a.m. prior to the meeting.

Social time starts at noon, with the flower roll call at 12:30 p.m.

The meeting will start at 1 p.m. to be followed by a program, “Clear Lake Trowel & Trellis Garden Club, Then and Now,” as the club is celebrating its 55^th anniversary.

The club meets at noon on the third Tuesday of the month, except in July and August.

Members, guests and all interested are most welcome. President Linda Waterstraat, 707-245-4731, invites interested gardeners to join the group.

The library is on the corner of Calistoga and Callayomi Streets in downtown Middletown.

Books will be sold by the bag at a bargain price of $5 per bag.

There will be a special sale of paperbacks, which will go for $3 per bag.

Books for sale include will include bestsellers, children’s stories, mysteries, spy intrigue, romance, cookbooks, self help, reference, audio tapes and CDs – and some surprise offerings.

All proceeds are for the purchase of new books and supplies for the library and the new library building fund.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – The First 5 Lake County Commission will hold its next meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 22.

The meeting will begin at 2:30 p.m. in the Lake One-Stop/EDD conference room, 55 First St., Lakeport.

Among the agenda items will be a review of a conflict of interest policy, the executive director's report and reports from commissioners.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – Oktoberfest-Lakeport is happening on Saturday, Oct. 2, in historic downtown Lakeport from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Planned festivities for this daylong event include a Dachshund Derby (yes, live dachshunds!) sponsored by Mediacom for which there currently are nine entries; entertainment all day on the stage at Third and Main streets; three live bands; contests including pretzel making, pretzel eating, Macho Parent (balloon contest), Dirndl/Lederhosen contest, Waist Basketball; and more.

A contest for the best authentic beer stein will be held at The Kitchen Gallery. Stop by their windows on the Third Street side of the building, pick the number of your favorite stein and cast your ballot in the store.

A German car show on Second Street and a beer and wine garden on Third Street opposite the stage area are some more of the fun activities that will be available.

The street dance from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. will feature the LC Diamonds.

Downtown merchants will be participating in Oktoberfest and you may see many of them in costume when the day comes as well as the vendors along Main Street.

NORTH COAST, Calif. – Caltrans reports that the following road projects will be taking place around Lake County during the coming week.

LAKE COUNTY

Highway 20

– PG&E of Ukiah has been granted a Caltrans Encroachment Permit for utility maintenance near Alpine Park beginning Monday, Sept. 20. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays.

Highway 175

– PG&E of Ukiah has been granted a Caltrans Encroachment Permit for utility maintenance from the Dry Creek Bridge to Stewart Street beginning Thursday, Sept. 23. Work hours are 10 p.m. Thursday evening through 9 a.m. Friday morning. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays.

MENDOCINO COUNTY

Highway 1

– PG&E of Eureka has been granted a Caltrans Encroachment Permit for tree trimming from 1.0 mile north of Stoneboard Road to Elk through Tuesday, Sept. 21. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.

– California Department of Parks and Recreation has been granted a Caltrans Encroachment Permit for sewer line repairs 0.3 mile south of Larkin Road. Work hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., weekdays. Intermittent one-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays.

– Replacement of signal heads from the junction of Routes 1/20 to Manzanita Street will continue. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays. Contractor – Republic ITS of Novato.

– Culvert repairs 0.8 mile south of Little Valley Road will continue. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays. Contractor – Kapel Construction of Willow Creek.

– Bridge deck repairs at the Union Landing Viaduct will continue. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays. Contractor – Peterson-Chase General Engineering Construction Inc. of Irvine.

Highway 101

– Storm damage repair from 1.5 mile north of the Mendocino/Sonoma County line to 0.5 mile north of the Pieta Creek Bridge will continue. Work hours are 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., weekdays. Traffic will be restricted to one lane in each direction of travel. Motorists may experience minor traffic slowdowns. Contractor – North Bay Construction of Petaluma.

– A metal guardrail repair project at various locations from the El Roble Overcrossing to 0.4 mile south of the Haehl Overhead bridge will continue. Work hours are 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., weekdays. In four-lane sections traffic will be restricted to one lane in each direction of travel, and motorists may experience minor traffic slowdowns. In two-lane sections one-way traffic control will be in effect, and motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays. Contractor – Wahlund Construction of Eureka.

– A pavement repair project from the Robinson Creek Overcrossing to Gobbi Street will continue. Traffic will be restricted to one lane in each direction of travel 24 hours per day from 8 p.m. Sunday through 3 p.m. Friday. Motorists may experience minor traffic slowdowns. Ramps will be intermittently closed at the Route 101/253 Interchange (Exit 546). A detour will be provided. Contractor – Granite Construction Inc. of Ukiah.

– Pavement repairs from Steel Lane to 0.6 mile south of Rattlesnake Summit will continue. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., weekdays. In four-lane sections traffic will be restricted to one lane in each direction of travel, and motorists may experience minor traffic slowdowns. In two-lane sections one-way traffic control will be in effect, and motorists should anticipate five-minute delays. Contractor – Mercer-Fraser Company of Eureka.

Highway 162

– Storm damage repair east of Sand Bank Creek will continue. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays. Contractor – Granite Construction of Ukiah.

Highway 222

– Replacement of the Russian River Bridge will continue. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control with a temporary signal will be in effect 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Motorists should anticipate 15-minute delays during work hours and five-minute delays at other times. Contractor – CC Myers of Rancho Cordova.

Highway 253

– A bridge widening project at Anderson Creek Bridge will continue. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays. Contractor – Viking Construction Co. Inc. of Rancho Cordova.

– A bridge widening project at Soda Creek Bridge will continue. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays. Contractor – Viking Construction Co. Inc. of Rancho Cordova.

– PG&E of Ukiah has been granted a Caltrans Encroachment Permit for pole replacement 3.8 miles west of Butler Ranch on Monday, Sept. 20, and Tuesday, Sept. 21. Work hours are 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.
