LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – A new year is almost here and there is no better way to kick off 2014 than with a free membership to the Lake County Milers.
The Lake County Milers is a local running and walking club made up of a variety of individuals who are dedicated to promoting physical fitness in our local community.
The Milers are offering free memberships for the 2014 calendar year to individuals and families if registered by Dec. 31.
The Lake County Milers is made up of more than 100 members of various ages and abilities.
Throughout the year, the Milers meet several days a week for group runs and walks. All distances and abilities are represented, from the walker to the marathon runner.
On Saturday mornings, the club hosts a shorter distance run/walk (two to four miles) in both the Kelseyville area and the Hidden Valley Lake area.
Saturday morning run/walks are casual, social and usually followed up with coffee from one of our fabulous local coffee shops.
The club hosts a longer run on Sunday mornings (usually six to 10 miles, but distance varies depending on what club members are training for).
Sunday morning run locations change weekly and are held in the Lower Lake, Hidden Valley Lake, Middletown and Kelseyville areas.
The Lake County Milers host several events throughout the year, relying on sponsorship from local businesses.
In April, the club hosts the “Donut Run,” which features a 5k race and donuts galore.
In May, the club hosts its signature event, the “Spring Has Sprung Run.” This year, the “Spring Has Sprung Run” features a 5k run/walk and 1k kid’s run. Both events feature age group medals and prizes for overall winners.
Each Thanksgiving, the club hosts a “Turkey Trot,” which features a noncompetitive, casual two- to three-mile walk/run with raffle prizes and goodies.
The club also donates proceeds from races to local charities and groups, such as Operation Tango Mike and the Upper Lake Cross Country Team.
Starting Jan. 1, 2014, membership dues will cost $10 for students, $15 for individuals and $25 for families.
Club membership includes access to the club newsletter with details on club activities and weekly runs, access to fantastic and reasonably priced Miler-themed fitness clothes, and a connection to an amazing network of fitness-minded individuals.
During the summer, the club hosts pizza and yogurt runs, which are free to club members.
The Lake County Milers are friendly and supportive of all runners and walkers, regardless of ability and experience.
