LAKEPORT, Calif. – The next HazMobile event will be held on Friday, Aug. 20, and Saturday, Aug. 21, at Kmart, 42019 S. Main St. in Lakeport.


Hours will be from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Events may be canceled due to rain.


Households can bring up to 15 gallons of toxic items free of charge. A charge will be made for amounts above 15 gallons.


Items that are accepted include paint, solvents, fuels, 5-gallon propane tanks, pool chemicals, pesticides, herbicides, dry cell batteries, fluorescent light tubes (up to 60 feet free) and other toxins that cannot be put in the trash.


Excluded items that cannot be accepted are televisions, computer monitors, ammunition, explosives, radioactive materials or infectious wastes. To learn how and where to properly dispose these items, please contact the Public Services office at 707-263-1980.


This is a residential service. Charges apply to businesses; phone 707-468-9786 for more information and business appointments.


Free recycled paint is available at Lake County Waste Solution Transfer Station at 230 Soda Bay Road in Lakeport on a first-come, first-served basis in five-gallon containers, of tan, brown, gray and pink.


Used oil can be recycled year round at a number of sites in the county.


The HazMobile program is subsidized by the Lake County Public Services Department Solid Waste Division.

KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – The Sons of Norway Vikings of Lake Lodge No. 6-166 will hold its heritage and culture night on Wednesday Aug. 25.


There will be a potluck dinner at 6 p.m. followed by “Crown Princess Martha the American Story” at 7 p.m.


The group will meet at the Galilee Lutheran Church Community Center, located at 8860 Soda Bay Road in Soda Bay.

Included are Mendocino County projects that may impact Lake County commuters.


LAKE COUNTY


Highway 20


– Ben Lawson of Clearlake Oaks has been granted a Caltrans Encroachment Permit to install a driveway near Hillside Lane beginning Monday, Aug. 9. Work hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.


– AT&T of Sacramento has been granted a Caltrans Encroachment Permit for utility maintenance at Shady Lane beginning Monday, Aug. 9. Work hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.


Highway 29


– Chip sealing from the Lake/Napa County line to Hidden Valley Road will continue. Nighttime work hours are 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 15-minute delays. Contractor – International Surfacing Systems of West Sacramento.


– Paving from the junction of Route 29/175 near Lakeport to Mockingbird Lane will continue. Work hours are 4 a.m. to 4 p.m., weekdays. Traffic will be restricted to one lane in each direction of travel. Motorists may experience minor traffic slowdowns. Ramps at Lakeport Boulevard (Exit 102), 11th Street (Exit 103), Park Way (Exit 106) and Nice-Lucerne Cutoff Road (Exit 108) will be intermittently closed. No more than one onramp and offramp will be closed at a time. Motorists will be advised to use an alternate route and may experience minor delays. Contractor – Granite Construction of Ukiah.


Highway 175


– Geotechnical surveys will be performed from 1.4 miles west of the Lake/Mendocino County line to 0.1 mile west of the junction of Route 29/175 near Kelseyville on Friday, Aug. 6. Work hours are 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays. Contractor – Fugro West Inc. of Roseville.


– Chip sealing from Cobb to the junction of Route 29/175 will continue. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 15-minute delays. Contractor – International Surfacing Systems of West Sacramento.


– PG&E of Ukiah has been granted a Caltrans Encroachment Permit for utility repairs from the Dry Creek Bridge to Stewart Street on Thursday, Aug. 12 and Friday, Aug. 13. Nighttime work hours are 10 p.m. Thursday to 9 a.m. Friday. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays.


MENDOCINO COUNTY


Highway 1


– Geotechnical surveys will be performed from 0.7 mile north of Iverson Road to 0.9 mile north of Stoneboro Road and from 0.3 mile north of Cameron Road to 0.6 mile south of Navarro Ridge Road on Tuesday, Aug. 10. Work hours are 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays. Contractor – Fugro West Inc. of Roseville.


– Installation of a radar feedback sign near Philo Greenwood Road will begin Monday, Aug. 9. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays. Contractor – Mike Brown Electric of Cotati.


– Paving from the Albion River Bridge to Jackson Street will continue. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 15-minute delays. Contractor – Granite Construction of Ukiah.


– Geotechnical surveys will be performed from Road 500A to 0.7 mile south of the Ten Mile River Bridge on Wednesday, Aug. 11. Work hours are 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays. Contractor – Fugro West Inc. of Roseville.


– Pavement repairs at Blue Slide Gulch, just south of Westport, will continue through Friday, Aug. 6. Work hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays. Contractor – Mercer-Fraser of Eureka.


– Westport County Water District has been granted a Caltrans Encroachment Permit to repair a water line near Hillcrest Terrace beginning Monday, Aug. 9. Work hours are 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., weekdays. Intermittent one-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.


– A drainage repair project from 1.4 miles south of Hales Grove to 1.2 mile south of Mill Bank Resort will continue. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect 24 hours per day, seven days per week through 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 6. Beginning Monday, Aug. 9, one-way traffic control will be in effect during work hours. Motorists should anticipate 15-minute delays. Contractor – Green Right O’Way Constructors of Willits.


Highway 20


– Geotechnical surveys will be performed from 0.3 mile east of Gravel Pitt Road to 1.5 mile west of the Broaddus Creek Bridge on Thursday, Aug. 12. Work hours are 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays. Contractor – Fugro West Inc. of Roseville.


Highway 101


– Installation of rock slope protection from Reeves Canyon Road to the Haehl Overhead bridge will continue. Work hours are 6 a.m. to 3 p.m., weekdays. Traffic will be restricted to one lane in each direction of travel. Motorists may experience minor traffic slowdowns. Contractor – Granite Construction of Ukiah.


Highway 128


– Geotechnical surveys will be performed from 3.5 miles east of the junction of Route 1/128 to .4 mile east of Paul Dimmick Park on Tuesday, Aug. 10. Work hours are 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays. Contractor – Fugro West Inc. of Roseville.


– Geotechnical surveys will be performed from 0.2 mile west of Wendling Soda Creek Road to 0.4 mile west of Monte Bloyd Road on Monday, Aug. 9. Work hours are 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays. Contractor – Fugro West Inc. of Roseville.

Highway 162


– Storm damage repair east of Sand Bank Creek will continue. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Contractor – Granite Construction of Ukiah.


Highway 175


– Geotechnical surveys will be performed near Wooldridge Ranch Road on Friday, Aug. 6. Work hours are 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays. Contractor – Fugro West Inc. of Roseville.


Highway 222


– Replacement of the Russian River Bridge will continue. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control with a temporary signal will be in effect 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Motorists should anticipate 15-minute delays during work hours and five-minute delays at other times. Contractor – CC Myers of Rancho Cordova.


– Geotechnical surveys will be performed just west of the Russian River Bridge on Monday, Aug. 9. Work hours are 6AM to 4 p.m. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays. Contractor – Fugro West Inc. of Roseville.


Highway 253


– Geotechnical surveys will be performed from 0.4 mile west of the Anderson Creek Bridge to 4.1 miles east of the Soda Creek Bridge on Monday, Aug. 9. Work hours are 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays. Contractor – Fugro West Inc. of Roseville.


– Construction of a retaining wall from Singley Cattlepass to the Soda Creek Bridge will continue. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays. Contractor – Mendocino Construction Services of Willits.


– A storm repair project from 0.8 mile east of the Soda Creek Bridge to Butler Ranch will continue. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays. Contractor – Mendocino Construction Services of Willits.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – The University of California Master Gardeners of Lake County invite all home gardeners to a “Gardening Resources on Wheels” (G.R.O.W.) workshop on fall gardening.


The workshop will take place beginning at 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 14, at the Konocti Vista Casino Banquet Room, 2755 Mission Rancheria Road, Lakeport.


The meeting room is a wheelchair-accessible facility.


Topics to be covered include soil preparation, seed starting transplanting, basics of irrigation, fertilizing, pest control, frost protection, and what to grow and when to harvest.


UC Master Gardeners will be on hand to answer questions after the workshop.

 

Pre-registration is requested. A $5 donation for materials is requested but not required to attend.

CLEARLAKE, Calif. – A barbecue fundraiser to support Sheriff Rod Mitchell's fall run for sheriff will be held on Sunday, Aug. 8.


The event will take place from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Main Street Bar & Grill, 14084 Lakeshore Drive in Clearlake.
