CLEARLAKE, Calif. – Soroptimist International of Clear Lake will host guest speaker Diane Watson at noon on Thursday, Sept. 26.

The meeting will take place at Howard's Grotto, 14732 Lakeshore Drive, Clearlake.

Watson will present material on women in mining.

Soroptimist International of Clear Lake holds monthly program meetings with guest speakers on the fourth Thursday of the month at noon at Howard's Grotto. All are welcome to attend.

KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – The Kelseyville High School staff and administration announces the school's annual 'Back to School Night' on Monday, Sept. 23, from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on the Kelseyville High School campus.

All parents are invited to attend and gather information regarding classroom procedures, grading and teacher expectations.

Students will be given class schedules and school maps to take home to their parents that same day.

Parents are asked to meet in the Kelseyville High School Student Center at 6 p.m. for an informational meeting followed by individual teacher visits and distribution of course material.

NORTH COAST, Calif. – Tune in to KZYX&Z’s Women's Voices program at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 23, when host Blake More will interview three writing women.

First up will be Cynthia Aragon, author of “Finding Happy,” sharing her roadmap to achieving true happiness in life.

Next will be Ukiah poet Theresa Whitehill, who will read a few poems and discuss her upcoming benefit reading at the Mendocino Hotel.

Rounding out the show will be, author, Stanford professor and part time Boonville resident Valerie Miner, author of “Traveling with Spirits,” who will discuss her nuanced novel about trespassing, welcoming and the ever-precarious luck of the innocent.

The show will air on KZYX&Z 90.7 FM Philo, 88.1 FM Fort Bragg and 91.5FM Willits, as well as stream live on the Web www.kzyx.org .

CLEARLAKE, Calif. – The Lower Lake High Class of 2014 will host an all you can eat pizza fundraiser on Wednesday, Sept. 18.

The dinner will take place from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Paradise Pizza, 15176 Lakeshore Drive in Clearlake.

Tickets are $8.

All proceeds will go towards the students' senior trip to Disneyland.  

LAKEPORT, Calif. – Hospice Services of Lake County recently named Christine Hutt as the marketing coordinator for the agency.

In this role Hutt will coordinate all marketing efforts on behalf of the agency including arrangement of speakers and speaking engagements in the community and event planner for development and fundraising activities.

Hutt has assisted in the development of promotional and advertising materials in the past year and is currently engaged in producing a new Web site for the agency with an expected completion in early November.

Hospice Services of Lake County has been the sole provider of hospice care in Lake County since 1979 and is Medicare-certified.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – The Ladies of the Lake Quilt Guild will present Cara Gulati as the “featured quilter” at the guild’s 12th annual Falling Leaves Quilt Show.

The show will take place at the Lake County Fairgrounds at 401 Martin St. in Lakeport, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6.

Gulati describes herself as a “fiber artist specializing in 3D art quilts of illusion.”

Gulati’s unique “3D explosion” designs use bold fabric and color combinations to create the illusion of scrolls uncoiling across her quilts, forming stars, flowers, butterflies and even a self-portrait.

She will be present Saturday and Sunday to talk with guests at the quilt show.
