UPPER LAKE, Calif. – Upper Lake High Class of 2014 Sober Grad is rapidly approaching and the group is raising funds for its Sober Graduation Night Party.

They also encourage any donation in the form of grad gifts and/or services – items of particular value or use to graduates as they venture out on their own.

CLEARLAKE, Calif. – A meet and greet for several candidates in the June primary will be held on Monday, May 5.

The event will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. at 14530 Lakeshore Drive in Clearlake, the location of the office of Joyce Overton, candidate for the District 2 seat on the Board of Supervisors.

Featured candidates will be Sorhna Li Jordan, assessor-recorder; Brian Martin, sheriff; and Andre Ross, district attorney.

There will be snacks and drinks, and music by Melissa and Fred.

UPPER LAKE, Calif. – Shannon Michele of Cache Creek Catering and Lake County Wine Studio are presenting a monthly food and wine series featuring gourmet appetizers paired with select Lake County wines.

Locally produced foods are proudly featured as key ingredients in recipes created by Cache Creek Catering.

The series is held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on the second Friday of each month.

The per person cost is $30 and $25 for Wine Studio club members. Reservations are required.

May 9 will feature Sangioveses and a Tuscan-inspired menu.

The first course will be arugula, shaved parmesan and bread crumb stuffed artichoke paired with Rosa D'Oro 2010 vintage, followed by a cheese tortellini with fennel sausage and sundried tomatoes paired with Rosa D'Oro 2011 vintage.  

The dessert course will be a cocoa nib biscotti with dried cherries and toasted pistachios paired with Laujor Estate 2012 vintage.

The April 11 event featured an opening salad course of arugula, strawberry, toasted almonds and chévre salad paired with Gregory Graham Grenache, followed by lamb meatballs with cranberry-shallot pan sauce paired with the new Merlot from Thorn Hill.  

The dessert course was Lemon cupcakes with a lemon and rosemary glaze topped with whipped cream paired with Fore Family Vineyards Late Harvest Sauvignon Blanc.

June 13 will be the next date to follow for the Local Cuisine Scene event with wines that pair well with barbecue grilled foods.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – The University of California Master Gardeners of Lake County's third annual Spring Garden Event on Sunday, May 4, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

It will take place outdoors at the Agricultural Center, 883 Lakeport Blvd., Lakeport.

The facility is wheelchair accessible and there is no charge to attend the event.

Presentations will be offered starting at 10 a.m. with “Gardening in a Drought,” followed at 11 with “Dealing with Invasive Pests,” and at noon with “More Local Wildflowers.”

Throughout the event, the Gardening Resources On Wheels, or G.R.O.W., team will offer continuous demonstrations on seed starting and saving, transplanting, soils and compost, irrigation, and raised beds and hoop houses.

Vegetable, flower, and drought tolerant plants, grown by U.C. Master Gardeners and selected for their adaptability to the Lake County climate, will be offered for sale.

There also will be a Master Gardener Help Desk to answer gardening questions. Plant samples should be brought sealed in a plastic bag.

NORTH COAST, Calif. – Caltrans reports that the following road projects will be taking place around the North Coast during the coming week.

Included are Mendocino County projects that may impact Lake County commuters.

LAKE COUNTY

Highway 20

– Clearlake Oaks County Water District has been issued a Caltrans Encroachment permit for utility repairs from Lakeview Drive to Keys Boulevard on Tuesday, May 6. Work hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays.

Highway 29

– Lake County Historical Society and Gibson Museum of Middletown have been issued a Caltrans Encroachment permit to close a local street for the Grand Opening of the Gibson Museum and Cultural Center on Saturday, May 3, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Turns onto Callayomi Street will be restricted.

MENDOCINO COUNTY

Highway 1

– Replacement of the Greenwood Creek Bridge will continue. One-way traffic control with a temporary signal will be in effect 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.

– Replacement of a culvert with a bridge at Dunn Creek will continue. One-way traffic control with a temporary signal will be in effect 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.

Highway 20

– Sidewalk enhancements from the junction of Routes 1/20 and Boatyard Drive will continue. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.

Highway 101

– Caltrans will perform slide repairs near the Korean War Veterans Memorial Bridge (near Frog Woman Rock). Northbound traffic will be restricted to one lane 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Motorists may experience minor traffic slowdowns.

– Bridge rehabilitation at the “green” Russian River Bridge will continue. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., weekdays. One way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays.

– Highway construction from 1.0 mile south of the Haehl Overhead Bridge to the Haehl Overhead Bridge will continue. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., weekdays. A shoulder closure will be in effect. Motorists may experience minor traffic slowdowns.

– AT&T of Eureka has been issued a Caltrans Encroachment permit for utility repairs from Branscomb Road to 0.3 mile south of the CAL FIRE station on Monday, May 5, and Tuesday, May 6. Work hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays.

Highway 162

– Bridge rehabilitation at the Rodeo Creek Bridge will continue. Work hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., weekdays. One way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.

Highway 175

– Bridge rehabilitation at the Russian River Bridge will continue. Work hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., weekdays. One way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.

The Caltrans Traffic Operations Office has reviewed each project and determined that individual project delays are expected to be less than the statewide policy maximum of 30 minutes, unless noted otherwise above.
