LAKE COUNTY – The Lake County Air Quality Management District is seeking applicants to fill a public member position on the district’s hearing board.


Persons interested in serving are encouraged to apply.


The hearing board meets infrequently and sits to consider regulation and permit condition variances, abatement orders, and permit appeals of air pollution control officer decisions. Hearings are formal and judicial in nature.


Applications may be obtained from the Lake County Air Quality Management District Hearing Board Clerk at 885 Lakeport Blvd., Lakeport, CA 95453, or call 707-263-7000 for more information.


Resumé submittals are encouraged from interested applicants. Submittals must be received by March 31 for consideration.

NORTH COAST – Caltrans reports that the following road projects will be taking place around Lake County during the coming week.


Included are Mendocino County projects that may impact Lake County commuters.


LAKE COUNTY


Highway 20


– PG&E of Ukiah has been granted a Caltrans Encroachment Permit to upgrade aerial crossings near the junction of Route 20/53 beginning Tuesday, March 9. Work hours are 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., weekdays.

Intermittent full road closures will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.


Highway 53


– Caltrans will be installing signs and striping to modify the Olympic Drive intersection to an all-way stop through Tuesday, March 9. Work hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control

will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.


MENDOCINO COUNTY


Highway 1


– Construction of a retaining wall about three miles north of Elk will continue. One-way traffic control with a temporary signal will be in effect 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Motorists should

anticipate 10-minute delays. Contractor – Granite Construction of Ukiah.


Highway 20


– A culvert replacement project from 2.6 miles west of Little Lake Road to the James Creek Bridge will continue. Work hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect.

Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays. Contractor – Kapel Construction of Willow Creek.


– Construction of a retaining wall 0.4 mile east of Three Chop Road will continue. One-way traffic control with a temporary signal will be in effect 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays. Contractor – Granite Construction of Ukiah.


Highway 101


– An emergency culvert replacement project at the junction of Route 101/271 near Reynolds will continue. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., weekdays. Traffic will be restricted to one lane in each direction of travel. Motorists may experience minor traffic slowdowns. Contractor – Mendocino Construction Service of Willits.


All projects are weather-permitting and subject to change. Caltrans wishes to advise motorists to drive with caution when approaching work areas and to be prepared to stop at traffic control stations.

NICE – A campaign kickoff event to launch District 3 Supervisor Denise Rushing's 2010 reelection campaign will take place on Sunday, March 14.


The event will being at 2 p.m. at the Sons of Italy Hall in Nice, 2817 Highway 20.


The event will include a silent auction to raise funds for the campaign, and will feature music and refreshments.


Rushing invites all interested community members to attend to learn more about her candidacy, celebrate progress thus far and help launch the 2010 campaign.


She is dedicated to promoting sustainable local economy and community self-reliance in Lake County. Rushing believes that, together, we can make changes that strengthen local community, support local economy and lead to more healthy, secure and meaningful lives.


The election is June 8.

NICE – Sons of Italy is holding an indoor flea market from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 6, at 2817 Highway 20 in Nice.


Gates open at 7 a.m. to set up inside the building. Inside tables are available for $10, first-come, first-serve basis. There also will be a bake sale.


The club’s kitchen and bar will be open to sell coffee, drinks, hot dogs and Italian sausage sandwiches.


Everyone is welcome.

KELSEYVILLE – Little Bow Wow Rescue of Northern California is holding its first adoption event in Lake County at Furry Tails Pet Boutique's brand new location in Kelseyville from noon to 3 p.m. this Sunday, March 7.


The address is 8040 Highway 29 near Kit's Corner.


Little Bow Wow Rescue started its Northern California rescue last year and have saved nearly 100 dogs just in since.


The rescue started in Southern California in 2001 and is a nonprofit organization run by devoted

volunteers.


Little Bow Wow Rescue has locations in Southern California, Northern California, Tennessee and Minnesota. It has saved the lives of over 1,000 abandoned dogs.


They will be joined by Lab Rescue and will have small and large dogs on site. There is an adoption fee and screening prior to adoption.


Author Martha Steward will hold a book signing at this event for her book, “Darby's Story, Life of an Adoptive Dog,” which will be sold for $15.95. Thirty percent of the sales profits at the event will benefit Little Bow Wow Rescue.

UPPER LAKE – The Northshore Dive Team will hold a dive training on Friday, March 5.


The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at Upper Lake's Station 90 on Main Street.


Training will follow. Bring PSD textbooks required for training.


Anyone who is interested in the team is encouraged to attend.
