CLEARLAKE, Calif. – Soroptimist International Clear Lake’s monthly business luncheon meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 10.

The meeting will take place at Howard's Grotto, 14732 Lakeshore Drive, in Clearlake.

Agenda items will include an update on the annual Spring Fling fundraiser, scheduled for Saturday, March 2, with guest speaker Christine Pelosi; and the trial evening meeting on Thursday Jan. 24, at the Greenview room Hidden Valley.  

Also on the agenda are reports from Mary Benson, Judy Mullins and Marty Comito with the results of three award programs, Women’s Opportunity Awards, Violet Richardson Award and Ruby Award. Winners of the three awards will be honored at the Annual Awards Luncheon in March.
          
Soroptimist is a cause-related philanthropic federation of clubs working to improve the lives of women and girls.

Soroptimist International Clear Lake meets twice monthly. Lunch is $12 and all interested women are invited to attend and learn more about the organization.

CLEARLAKE, Calif. – The Clearlake Grocery Outlet presented Easter Seals with $100 for the Lake County Verna Morris Travel Fund at Christmas time.  

The fund gives travel stipends to families with children ages 6 to 20 years old who have medical, dental or developmental appointments outside of Lake County.  

Stipends amounts range from $17 to $40 per trip depending on the destinations.

This fund was started several years ago by Morris’ friend for Morris’ unwavering support of her son’s and other children’s disabling diseases.

This fund relies solely on community donations.

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – Lake County Public Services Director Caroline Chavez announced that the Parks Division will be recruiting lifeguards for the Middletown Pool this coming spring 2013 for the summer season.

Special requirements for this position are possession of a current lifeguard certificate, community cardiopulmonary resuscitation certificate (eight hours), standard first aid certificate (eight hours), and emergency medical service authority certificate (eight hours) or acquire EMSA certificate prior to June 10.  

Lifeguard applicants must be at least 15 years of age or older. Special requirements for the lead lifeguard applicants are to be at least 17 years of age or older and possession of a Water Safety Instructor Certification is preferred.

Lifeguarding classes will be held at Mendocino College at the Willits Campus beginning in Feb. 6.

Chavez encourages all applicants interested in becoming a lifeguard for the Middletown Pool this coming summer season, to call and enroll at Mendocino College for their lifeguard training.

KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – The Sons of Norway Vikings of Lake Lodge No. 6-166 will celebrate the organization’s founding on Wednesday, Jan. 16.

The Founders’ Day event will be held at Galilee Lutheran Church, 8860 Soda Bay Road, Kelseyville.

The meeting also will mark the eighth anniversary of the local lodge’s founding.

A potluck supper begins at 6 p.m., with the installation of the 2013 lodge officers taking place at 7 p.m., followed by the presentation of membership pins.

Vikings of Lake Lodge meets the third Wednesday of the month at the Galilee Fellowship Hall.

The meetings typically begin at 6 p.m. with a meal followed by a “heritage and culture program” celebrating all countries of Scandinavia.

CLEARLAKE, Calif. – A caregiver support group for families dealing with memory loss or other cognitive impairments will meet on Wednesday, Jan. 9.

The group meets from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 14310 Memory Lane in Clearlake.

The group facilitator is social worker Jenny Johnson.

The groups are sponsored by Redwood Caregiver Resource Center (1-800-834-1636) and the Social Day Programs of Lake County.

Respite is provided by the centers at no charge.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – The No Name Car Club recently made a donation to the Lakeport Senior Activity Center.

No Name Car Club President Neil Dolce, along with club treasurer Jim Perry, presented a check for $263 from a recent fundraiser to Lakeport Senior Activity Center Board members Pat Skoog, Jean Welch and Nanette Marschall.
