MIDDLETOWN, Calif. – A unique fundraiser is offering community members the chance to learn a life-saving skill while raising funds to send some local school children on a cross-country adventure to the nation's capitol.

Middletown Christian School's Save a Life CPR Class and Washington, DC Fundraiser will take place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 1, at the school, 20800 Highway 29.

The school is planning the trip to Washington, DC in May.

Emergency Care Training & Supply will host the CPR training. Preregistration is required as space is limited.

Participants will learn CPR techniques for use both on adults and children, along with automated external defibrillator (AED) training.

The cost is $25 per person for those not seeking American Heart Association certification (ages 10 and up), and $40 per person for a two-year American Heart Association certification (ages 12 and up).

Both classes include the required American Heart Association textbook.

There will be free snacks and babysitting, with 100 percent of the proceeds going toward the May trip.

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – The Democratic Party is looking for a few good men and women to join in party activities.

Do you want to be more active in the local Democratic Party? Do you want to participate in party activities locally? Do you want to help shape policy and positions and have a voice in party endorsements at the local level of our party? Do you want to help elect Democrats and help get Lake County Democrats to turn out for elections?

You can do this by running for a seat in the local party. Each supervisor district in Lake County is represented on the county committee by a number of elected or appointed members of the Democratic Party who live in each district.

The number of Democratic County Central Committee members to be elected from each Supervisorial district are:

• Supervisorial District 1 – Five members;

• Supervisorial District 2 – Four members;

• Supervisorial District 3 – Four members;

• Supervisorial District 4 – Four members;

• Supervisorial District 5 – Four members.

In order to run for a seat, interested candidates will need to go to the courthouse to the registrar's office, in person, and file an intent to run and get signature gathering petitions.

Candidates will need to collect valid signatures of 20 Democrats living within their supervisorial district in order to qualify for election.

Those signature petitions must be returned, by the candidate, to the registrar no later than the deadline of March 9.

The beginning date to pull papers was Monday, Feb. 13; filing closes on Wednesday, March 9.

KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – LakeCoMoveToAmend announced that its monthly business meeting will be on Monday, Feb. 20.

The meeting will take place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Guido’s Pizzeria Restaurant in Kelseyville.

Guido's is located at 5440 Live Oak Drive. The tentative agenda calls for discussion of a proposed Clearlake City Council Resolution to end Corporate Personhood and a County Ballot Initiative that would give Lake County residents a chance to voice their opinion. The public is invited to attend the meeting.

LakeCoMoveToAmend is a group of Lake County, Calif., residents that is promoting advancement of an amendment to the U.S. Constitution which would reverse the unpopular Citizens United, Supreme Court ruling and will establish that 1) corporations are not people and do not possess the inalienable rights of living persons; 2) money does not equal “speech” and is not protected by First Amendment rights against infringement; and 3) money and its influence on government and politics can and must be regulated.

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – With Valentine’s Day fast approaching, many customers will celebrate with helium-filled metallic balloons.

Pacific Gas and Electric Co. urges customers to securely tie a weight to all metallic balloons containing helium to prevent them from floating away.

Metallic balloons that contact overhead power lines can disrupt electric service to an entire neighborhood, cause significant property damage, and potentially result in serious personal injuries.

Last year, metallic balloons that drifted into PG&E power lines caused nearly 300 outages, affecting electric service to more than 150,000 PG&E customers throughout Northern and Central California.

In order to significantly reduce such outages, and so everyone can safely enjoy their Valentine’s Day, PG&E reminds customers to follow these important safety tips for metallic balloons:

• "Look Up and Live!" Use caution and avoid celebrating with metallic balloons near overhead electric lines.

• Make sure helium-filled metallic balloons are securely tied to a weight that is heavy enough to prevent them from floating away. Never remove the weight!

• When possible, keep metallic balloons indoors. Never release them outside.

• Do not bundle metallic balloons together.

• Never attempt to retrieve any type of balloon, kite, or toy that becomes caught in a power line. Leave it alone and immediately call PG&E at 1-800-743-5000 to report the problem.

• Never go near a power line that has fallen to the ground or is dangling in the air. Always assume downed electric lines are live. Stay far away, keep others away and immediately call 911 to alert the police and fire departments.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – Love is in the air for Valentine’s Day this year at Lakeside Family Fun & Event Center.

Feb. 14 is a Tuesday, but they will to celebrate like it’s the weekend, with something for the young, as well as the young at heart.

A handmade Valentine craft event for that special someone will spread the love. Funtown is offering kids ages 8 & under the chance to make up to five Valentines, complete with hand-picked embellishments, for their loved ones.

For only $5, kids can use all the center's materials to decorate their heart, or other shaped card, and the center will clean up the mess. Afterward kids can play in Funtown for one hour.
