LAKEPORT, Calif. – The All Horse and Antique Tractor Parade will take place in Lakeport on Saturday, July 13.

The parade, part of the Lake County Rodeo, will take place beginning at 11 a.m.

Come and see the most beautiful horses local and from afar. There will be wonderful antique tractors of all kinds.  

The parade route is down Main Street so get your spot early and enjoy the sites.

The rodeo starts at the Lake County Fairgrounds, 401 Martin St., and is a family event that shouldn't be missed.

NORTH COAST – Caltrans reports that the following road projects will be taking place around the North Coast during the coming week.

Included are Mendocino County projects that may impact Lake County commuters.

LAKE COUNTY

Highway 53

– Highway widening and rehabilitation from 40th Avenue to the junction of Routes 20/53 will continue. Work hours are 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays. Contractor ‐ Teichert Construction of Davis.

Highway 175

– PG&E of Eureka has been issued a Caltrans Encroachment permit for utility repairs near Cobb Village on Tuesday, June 25. Work hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.

MENDOCINO COUNTY

Highway 1

– City of Point Arena has been issued a Caltrans Encroachment permit for utility work from Main Street to the Cal Fire station beginning Monday, June 24. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.

– Replacement of the Greenwood Creek Bridge will continue. One-way traffic control with a temporary signal will be in effect 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays. Contractor ‐ Golden State Bridge Inc. of Martinez.

– Slipout repairs 1.6 miles south of Navarro Bluff Road will continue. One-way traffic control with a temporary signal will be in effect 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays. Contractor ‐ Green Right O'Way Constructors of Willits.

– Bridge painting at the Salmon Creek Bridge and the Albion River Bridge will continue. One-way traffic control with a temporary signal will be in effect 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays. Contractor ‐ Jeffco Painting and Coating of Vallejo.

– Replacement of a culvert with a bridge at Dunn Creek will continue. One-way traffic control with a temporary signal will be in effect 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays. Contractor ‐ Shasta Construction of Redding.

Highway 101

– Caltrans will perform slide repairs near the Korean War Veterans Memorial Bridge (near Frog Woman Rock). Northbound traffic will be restricted to one lane 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Motorists may experience minor traffic slowdowns.

– Bridge rehabilitation at the "green" Russian River Bridge will continue. Nighttime work hours are 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., weekdays. One way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays. Contractor ‐ J. McLoughlin Engineering of Rancho Cucamonga.

– AT&T of Fort Bragg has been issued a Caltrans Encroachment permit for an aerial crossing just north of the El Roble Overcrossing on Sunday, June 23. Work hours are 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Intermittent full road closures will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.

– Vegetation removal just south of the Haehl Overhead Bridge will continue. A shoulder closure will be in effect 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Motorists may experience minor traffic slowdowns. Contractor ‐ DeSilva Gates Construction of Dublin.

– Highway construction from 0.5 mile north of Casteel Lane to the North Willits Railroad Crossing will continue. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., weekdays. Intermittent full road closures will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays. Contractor ‐ DeSilva Gates Construction of Dublin.

– Bridge rehabilitation at the Ash Creek Bridge will continue. Nighttime hours are 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., Sunday evening through Friday morning. One way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays. Contractor ‐ J. McLoughlin Engineering of Rancho Cucamonga.

Highway 162

– Metal beam guardrail repair at various locations from the junction or Routes 101/162 to the Middle Fork Eel River Bridge will continue. Work hours are 6 a.m. to 5 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays. Contractor ‐ Coral Construction of Wilsonville.

Highway 175

– AT&T of Fort Bragg has been issued a Caltrans Encroachment permit for utility repairs from East Side Rancheria Road to Buckman Drive on Tuesday, June 25. Work hours are 9 a.m. to 12 noon. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.

Work on all these projects is weather permitting and subject to change. Caltrans advises motorists to drive with caution when approaching work areas and to be prepared to stop at traffic control stations.

The Caltrans Traffic Operations Office has reviewed each project and determined that individual project delays are expected to be less than the statewide policy maximum of 30 minutes, unless noted otherwise above.

LOWER LAKE, Calif. – The public is invited to the 25th annual meeting of the Lower Lake Historical School Preservation Committee at noon on Saturday, July 13.

The meeting will be held in the Weaver Auditorium of the Lower Lake Historic Schoolhouse Museum, 16435 Main St.

A light luncheon will be served, followed by a short meeting for the presentation of the annual report and election of officers to the board.

A slide show about the history of the schoolhouse will be given by museum curator Linda Lake.

Participation on the museum board offers a rewarding volunteer opportunity for those interested in the history of the Lower Lake area.

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – Soroptimist International of Clear Lake will install the new officers for the 2013-14 term at a special luncheon meeting to be held Thursday, June 27.

The luncheon will be held at 11:30 a.m. in the dining area of Chic le Chef in the Hardester's Plaza on Hartman Road, Hidden Valley Lake.

Officers to be installed and assume their duties on July 1 include Wanda Harris, who will be serving her second term as president; Judy Conard, vice president; Marsha Willard, secretary; Joy Swetnam, treasurer; Olga Martin Steele, director; and Pollyann Johnston, public relations director.

Soroptimist of Clear Lake has some exciting programs planned to assist the girls and women of Lake County to better their lives.

Soroptimist is a cause-related philanthropic federation of clubs working to improve the lives of women and girls locally, nationally and internationally.

Soroptimist International Clear Lake meets twice monthly, on the second and fourth Thursdays, at Howard's Grotto in Clearlake. Lunch is $12 and all interested women are invited to attend and learn more about the organization.

UKIAH, Calif. – The Mendocino College Foundation’s annual Gala on the Green Vine and Dine fundraiser was held on Saturday, June 1, to the largest crowd ever.

The event hosted 433 guests, an increase of over 25 percent from last year.

This year’s Gala Vine and Dine was held on the Mendocino College Campus at the newly opened Student Plaza, showcasing the newly developed Student Center.

“Having combined our planning efforts with the MESA (Math Engineering Science Achievement) Program many talented students from the Culinary Arts department created a masterpiece meal, the Performing and Visual Arts students provided the evening’s entertainment and students from our athletic department helped keep things moving all evening,” said Richard Cooper, special events/marketing committee chair.

Cooper joined the foundation in 2008 and quickly became the chair of special events providing the vision and leadership necessary to grow the gala from revenue $52,000 in 2010 to over $100,000 in 2013.

“Richard had a goal and with his tenacity and incredible leadership skills we have met that goal. As a result more students will receive scholarships, book awards and financial support,” said Katie Fairbairn, foundation executive director.

Event coordinator Travis Scott and Fairbairn expressed their gratitude to all of the event sponsors, auction item donors, winning bidders, foundation board members, volunteers, participating wineries, appetizer stations and all of the gala attendees for their wonderful support.

MENDOCINO COUNTY, Calif. – On Monday evening, June 24, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in cooperation with Cal Fire will be conducting a control burn at the Coyote Valley Dam.   

The control burn will take place from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The smoke will be visible throughout the entire Ukiah and Redwood Valley areas.

The purpose of the control burn is to assist the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in removing the vegetation from the face of the Coyote Valley Dam allowing access and visibility for the required inspection.

Coyote Dam and the Fish Hatchery area near the base of the dam will be closed to the public.  

The burn will be conducted under very tight restrictions for the personal safety of firefighters and area residents.

Cal Fire reminds all residents that their safety is of the utmost concern.
