LAKEPORT – Lakeport Library, located at 1425 N. High St., will be the scene of a toe-tapping event on Friday, Aug. 7, from 10:15 a.m. to 11 a.m. as members of the Konocti Fiddle Club visit the preschool story time.

The fiddlers, who range in age from kindergarten to grandparent, will demonstrate what a fiddle can do and will perform some classic fiddle tunes.

NORTH COAST – Caltrans reports that the following road projects will be taking place around Lake County during the coming week.

Included are Mendocino County projects that may impact Lake County commuters.

LAKE COUNTY

Highway 20

– A project to add turnouts from the Blue Lake Motel to Witter Springs Road will continue. Work hours are 6 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., weekdays. A shoulder closure will be in effect. Motorists are advised to drive with caution through the area and may experience minor traffic slowdowns. Contractor – Team Ghilotti of Petaluma.

– A highway widening project from Government Street to Rancheria Road will continue. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate

20-minute delays. Contractor – Argonaut Constructors of Santa Rosa.

– Caltrans will perform routine maintenance from Bruner Drive to the entrance of Paradise Cove beginning Wednesday, July 22. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Thursday. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays.

– A project to add turnouts from 0.1 mile east of Diane Court to 0.2 mile west of Catholic Church Road will continue. Work hours are 6 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays. Contractor – Team Ghilotti of Petaluma.

– Caltrans will perform routine maintenance from Sulfur Bank Drive to 0.3 mile west of Catholic Church Road on Monday, July 20, and Tuesday, July 21. Work hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.

– A roadway realignment project from 1.4 miles east of the North Fork Cache Creek Bridge to 1.6 miles west of Walker Ridge Road will continue. Work hours are 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., weekdays. Highway 29

– Bridge deck repairs at Kelseyville Creek Bridge will continue. Work hours are 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., Sunday evening through Friday morning. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 15-minute delays. Contractor – DeBruin Construction Inc. Of Stockton.

Highway 175

– Caltrans will perform routine maintenance from the Lake/Mendocino County line to the junction of Route 29/175 near Lakeport. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Thursday. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays.

– A pavement sealing project from the junction of Route 29/175 near Kelseyville to Kelsey Creek will continue. Work hours are 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays. Contractor – Northwest Paving of Redding.

MENDOCINO COUNTY

Highway 1

– Construction of a retaining wall about three miles north of Elk will continue. One-way traffic control with a temporary signal will be in effect 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Motorists should

anticipate 10-minute delays. Contractor – Granite Construction of Ukiah.

– The city of Fort Bragg has been granted a Caltrans Encroachment Permit for sidewalk and sewer upgrades from Walnut Street to Pine Avenue. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., weekdays. Southbound traffic will be restricted to one lane. Motorists may experience minor traffic slowdowns.

Highway 20

– A highway widening project from Trailer Cove Road to 0.1 mile east of Gravel Pitt Road will continue through Friday, July 17. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., weekdays. Highway 101

– Comcast of Ukiah has been granted a Caltrans Encroachment Permit for an aerial crossing at Happy Lane on Wednesday, July 22. Work hours are 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Intermittent full road closures will be

in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.

– Storm damage repair from 0.5 mile north of the Mendocino/Sonoma County line 1.6 miles south of East Side Road will begin Monday, July 20. Traffic will be restricted to one lane in each direction of travel 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Motorists may experience minor traffic slowdowns. Contractor – North Bay Construction of Petaluma.

– Bridge deck repairs at the Hopland Overhead Bridge will continue through Friday, July 17. Work hours are 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., Sunday evening through Friday morning. Highway 128

– A culvert replacement project 2.7 miles west of the Shearing Creek Bridge will continue through Friday, July 17. Work hours are 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect.

As a result of the Lakeport City Council's decision to ban fireworks sales this 4th of July, several youth organizations lost a bulk of their program's funding opportunity.

When the Channel Cats Swim Team leader Jennifer Hanson recognized the adverse impact created by the City Council's decision, she penned a letter to the editor informing the public of their funding crisis. The Lakeport Kiwanis took on their funding shortfall with an offer; a pancake breakfast to help offset their funding loss.

When the fire chief of the Lakeport Fire Department was asked to open their firehouse doors on Main Street to host a pancake breakfast, he agreed to let the volunteer firemen make the final decision. The firemen agreed to host a pancake breakfast to benefit the youth organizations that wished to participate. The No Fireworks Pancake Breakfast was born, with the Channel Cats Swim Team and the Miss Lake County Pageant joining in.

The menu will be pancakes, sausage, ham, scrambled eggs, coffee, orange juice and milk.

No Fireworks Pancake Breakfast tickets are available from Channel Cat swimmers, Miss Lake County Pageant participants and supporters, the Lakeport Kiwanis members and the firefighters at the firehouse.

Tickets are available for a $10 donation for a single breakfast and $25 for a family ticket. Each ticket buyer is also eligible for a raffle opportunity for items provided by local businesses.

CLEARLAKE – The Lake County Stonewall Democratic Club will hold its next meeting on Monday, July 27.

The group will meet at 6:30 p.m. for potluck with the meeting to begin at 7 p.m. at the Redbud Library, Conference Room, 14785 Burns Valley Road, Clearlake.

Plans for the second annual AIDS Walk, sponsored by C-Chap, will be discussed at the meeting.

The Stonewall Club will also have a booth at the September 19 AIDS Walk.

LAKEPORT – The Lake County Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Commission invites the public to attend a commission meeting on Thursday, July 16.

The public forum will be held at a regularly scheduled commission meeting beginning at 12:15 p.m. in the third floor conference room C in the Lake County Courthouse, 255 N. Forbes St., Lakeport.

The Lake County Juvenile Justice Commission was established through the provisions of section #225 of the California State Welfare and Institutions Code.

The Lake County Board of Supervisors adopted County Ordinance 1103 in September of 1979, designating the Commission for the County of Lake.

Details of the Commissions bylaws describe one of the Commission’s roles as to “inquire into the administration of the juvenile court law in Lake County” and to coordinate the work of the community agencies engaged in delinquency prevention programs and to initiate such programs to fill any unmet needs.

Additionally the Commission may inspect all publicly administered juvenile facilities, including the juvenile hall as well as any county jail that has been reported to have held a minor for more than 24 hours in the previous year.

The commission is also directed to inspect at their discretion, group homes and other related juvenile facilities.

There are currently six vacancies on the 15-person board that the commission would like to fill.

Youths between the ages of 14 and 21 are encouraged to attend and inquire as to a commission position. The commission is also looking to fill four vacant adult seats.
