The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at the Clearlake Oaks Community United Methodist Church, 2487 The Plaza,

Herb Gura, current member and candidate for reelection to the Konocti Unified School District Board of Trustees, will be the guest speaker.

Agenda items will include a report on registrations at the Lake County Fair; details of the group's participation in the second annual AIDSWalk; plans for the opening of the United Democratic Campaign Headquarters at 1210 S. Main St. in Lakeport; the annual legislators' barbecue on Saturday, Oct. 16, at the Highlands Senior Center in Clearlake; and details of the day of action house parties held for the re-election of Sen. Barbara Boxer.

All Democrats are encouraged to join the Barbara Boxer committee and can obtain information membership forms by calling the numbers below.

Also on the agenda will be reports from representatives for Congressman Mike Thompson, Assemblyman Wes Chesbro and Sen. Patricia Wiggins, details on the committee's participation in the campaigns of endorsed candidates Doug Rhoades for Lake County district attorney and Francisco Rivero for Lake County sheriff, and ongoing voter registration at local farmers' markets.

Committee Chair Becky Curry encourages all registered Democrats to come to the meeting and get involved with the many activities sponsored by the group.

The benefit dinner for Julie Edgington Griffin will be held at the Keys Club, 12980 Lakeland St. in Clearlake Oaks, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 9.

Griffin is the daughter of Keys and Moose Club members Jerry and Sandy Edgington. A young mother of three, she was stricken with the Guillan-Barre Syndrome, in which the body's immune system attacks the nervous system, causing almost total paralysis.

Tickets are $12, which includes a grilled chicken dinner, silent auction, raffles, drawings and live music.

Highway 20

– Caltrans will perform routine maintenance from Witter Springs Road to the junction of Routes 20/29 beginning Monday, Sept. 27. Work hours are 6 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Thursday. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays.

– The county of Lake has been granted a Caltrans Encroachment Permit for utility maintenance near Alpine Park. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., weekdays. Traffic will be restricted to one lane in each

direction of travel. Motorists may experience minor traffic slowdowns.

MENDOCINO COUNTY

Highway 1

– Live Oak Ranch, LLC, of Yorkville has been granted a Caltrans Encroachment Permit for a road approach near the Greenwood Creek Bridge beginning Monday, Sept. 27. Work hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.

– Replacement of signal heads from the junction of Routes 1/20 to Manzanita Street will continue. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should

anticipate five-minute delays. Contractor – Republic ITS of Novato.

– Culvert repairs 0.8 mile south of Little Valley Road will continue. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays.

– Bridge deck repairs at the Union Landing Viaduct will continue. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays.

Highway 101

– A metal beam guardrail repair project at various locations from 0.1 mile north of the Mendocino/Sonoma County line to Ukiah will continue. Nighttime work hours are 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., Sunday evening through Friday morning. In four-lane sections traffic will be restricted to one lane in each direction of travel, and motorists may experience minor traffic slowdowns. In two-lane sections one-way traffic control will be in effect, and motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays. Contractor –

Wahlund Construction of Eureka.

– A metal beam guardrail repair project at various locations from the El Roble Overcrossing to 0.4 mile south of the Haehl Overhead bridge will continue. Work hours are 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., weekdays. In

four-lane sections traffic will be restricted to one lane in each direction of travel, and motorists may experience minor traffic slowdowns. In two-lane sections one-way traffic control will be in effect, and motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays. Contractor – Wahlund Construction of Eureka.

– A pavement repair project from the Route 101/222 (Talmage Road) Interchange to the Presswood Overhead Bridge will continue. Traffic will be restricted to one lane in each direction of travel 24 hours

per day from 8 p.m. Sunday through 3 p.m. Friday. Motorists may experience minor traffic slowdowns. Ramps at Talmage Road (Exit 548A), Gobbi Street (Exit 548B), and Perkins Street (Exit 549) will be intermittently closed. Motorists will be advised to use an alternate route and may experience minor delays. Contractor – Granite Construction Inc. of Ukiah.

– Pavement repairs from Steel Lane to 0.6 mile south of Rattlesnake Summit will continue. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., weekdays. In four-lane sections traffic will be restricted to one lane in each

direction of travel, and motorists may experience minor traffic slowdowns. In two-lane sections one-way traffic control will be in effect, and motorists should anticipate five-minute delays. Contractor – Mercer-Fraser Company of Eureka.

Highway 162

– Storm damage repair east of Sand Bank Creek will continue. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 15-minute delays.

Highway 222

– Replacement of the Russian River Bridge will continue. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control with a temporary signal will be in effect 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Motorists should anticipate 15-minute delays during work hours and five-minute delays at other times. Contractor – CC Myers of Rancho Cordova.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – It’s back by popular demand – Oktoberfest will take place in Lakeport on Saturday, Oct. 2.

Join your friends and neighbors while enjoying the fun contests, great food and craft vendors, beer garden and music all day and into the evening.

The Kitchen Gallery is hosting a German beer stein contest that you may view in their windows on the Third Street side that day.

This is a call out for anyone who has a favorite stein that they may want to enter into this contest. Get your stein entry in early for viewing.

There is also a pretzel making contest for all ages, so come early to sign up for the fun.

Don’t forget about the weiner dog races as well as the Dirndl/Lederhosen costume contest. Prizes will be awarded courtesy of your Main Street businesses.
