LAKE COUNTY, Calif. — The Lake County Women’s Civic Club has donated $10,000 to the Northshore Youth Club.

The women’s club opened up applications for the $10,000 to all local nonprofits in Lake County to apply.

“There were numerous applications that came in and are all worthy causes and missions. It was difficult narrowing it down as there are so many needs here in Lake County,” said board member Connie Conser.

“Once we narrowed down the applications to the top six, we had each organization come to a board meeting to present on the need/project request of how the $10,000 will make an impact,” said President Helen Finch.

At a recent civic club monthly meeting, they presented the Northshore Youth Club with a $10,000 check.

The Northshore Youth Club, or NYC, is a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to providing and sponsoring local academic and extracurricular enrichment activities to all youth — ages 5 to 18 years old — to the Northshore and beyond.

NYC provides high quality programs with a wide range of free or affordable opportunities for all Northshore families including but not limited to basketball league, football, cheer and a rock music camp to name a few.

Northshore Youth Club is 80% funded through donations and sponsorships and 20% funded through the minimal registration fees which cover the insurance and individualized gear that is needed to conduct various programs.

“The funding provided by LCWCC is going to make a huge impact and will fund the following needs: financial sponsorship of underprivileged youth, purchase of much-needed equipment and start of new programs such as arts, performing arts, poetry and photography programs and will provide much-needed gear for the newly established and growing NYC wrestling team,” said Mike Smith, the president of the Northshore Youth Club Board of Directors.

The Lake County Women’s Civic Club’s mission is to serve in ways that will make our community a better place for citizens.

“By enhancing the lives of youth, we are working towards enhancing the future of Lake County,” said Past President Julie Hernaez.

“I couldn’t be more proud of our club and the organization that we chose for the $10,000 donation. We know this is going to make an impact for years to come,” said Finch.

The California Groundwater Association, or CGA, is urging all private well owners impacted by drought to have their systems inspected and water levels tested as we enter the summer months.

Drought impacts both the productivity of a water well and its water quality. Because of this, it is important that well owners take proper steps to ensure their systems are operating safely and efficiently as we continue to experience drought conditions across the country.

Well owners should consider taking the following steps:

• Have your water well inspected by a certified water well contractor. Wells that are not operating correctly will waste water and are more likely to completely fail during prolonged periods of drought. An inspection can help locate current and potential problems with a system before they become serious issues.
• Test your well water. There has been growing evidence that lower water tables, deeper wells, and extreme drought have led to higher levels of contaminants in groundwater. These contaminants can typically be easily identified and treated with a simple water quality test.
• Test your water levels. Declining water levels can impact not only the mechanics of your well but also water quality. A simple water level test can help determine what service may or may not be needed.
• Conserve water, fix leaks, and utilize water-efficient technology. By properly conserving water, fixing leaks, and utilizing more efficient water technology, you can help ensure your water levels remain healthy for you and your neighbors.
• Don’t delay! Due to ongoing drought, supply chain issues, and national labor shortages — well owners are seeing longer than usual wait times for service. If it has been more than a year since your last water well inspection, we urge well owners to reach out today to a certified contractor.

LAKEPORT, Calif. — The Lake County Registrar of Voters Office will conduct a public manual tally of a minimum of 1% of randomly selected precincts from the June 7 Statewide Direct Primary Election on Tuesday, June 14.

The tally will begin at 9 a.m. at the elections office, 325 N. Forbes St., Lakeport.

It will include randomly selected precincts from each contest on the July 7 ballot.

The selection of the precincts to be included in the manual tally will be randomly chosen on the same date prior to the manual tally.

Observers are invited to view the manual tally of the ballots, but shall not interfere with the election process.
