LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – You’ve cleaned up your yard, composted the remains of the summer vegetable garden.
Now you’re looking forward to perusing seed catalogs by the fireplace, sipping a cup of your favorite hot beverage and fantasizing about next years’ gardening successes.
Wait a minute – you just realized there’s one thing you forgot.
This year you really wanted to learn about how to properly care for your garden tools. Remember being embarrassed about having the rustiest, bluntest pruners at last year’s pruning demo? Well, you’re not going to have that happen again, ever.
This year you’re going to be in good shape because you’ll be attending UC Master Gardener Jim Harrell’s care and maintenance of garden tools workshop.
The workshop will be held beginning at 4 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, at the Lake County Agricultural Center, 883 Lakeport Blvd., Lakeport.
Harrell is a veteran UC Master Gardener who has been writing and lecturing on tool care for his fellow Master Gardeners for many years.
This year he will share his considerable expertise on the subject with you. You’ll not only save money by keeping your tools in good working order longer, you also will promote the health of your plants by using well maintained cutting tools and you’ll enjoy the empowering feeling of being a more knowledgeable and well-rounded gardener.
Handouts will be provided. A $5 donation is suggested for cost recovery.
