KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – The Ely Stage Stop & Country Museum is host to the California Old Time Fiddlers’ Association on the first Sunday of each month.

The August event was canceled due to heat, smoke and extreme fire danger.

Both the museum volunteers and the fiddlers are ready to resume the monthly event on Sunday, Sept. 6. This event is very popular and draws a large crowd each month.

The musicians will follow the usual round-robin format with donations benefitting both the Ely Stage Stop, helping to fund the construction of the blacksmith complex, and the Old Time Fiddlers Association District 10, using it to partially fund their scholarship programs.

Come early to picnic and check out the latest museum acquisitions and displays.  Enjoy the music with beverages and tasty treats provided by the docents. Bring your own wine and sip it in Ely Stage Stop wine glasses that are available for purchase.

In April, the Stage Stop held its first Marketplace in conjunction with that month’s Fiddlers’ Jam and it was a rousing success. Eleven vendors and 250 attendees enjoyed music, refreshments, and the opportunity to browse and purchase the wares of local craftsmen and artists.

The next Ely Marketplace will be held during the Oct. 4 Fiddlers’ Jam. In addition to local arts and crafts, food vendors will be on site with an array of goods for purchase.

Vendor spaces are $25 each plus an additional $10 if an electrical outlet is required. Vendors interested in participating should contact either Pete Chappars at 707-350-4330, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. , or Steve Hendricks at 707-972-7884, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. for an application packet.

The completed application and payment must be received by Saturday, Sept. 19.

The Lake County Historical Society’s Ely Stage Stop & Country Museum is located at 9921 State Highway 281 (Soda Bay Road) in Kelseyville, near Clearlake Riviera, just north of Highway 29-Kit's Corner.

Current hours of operation are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. each Saturday and Sunday.

Fiddlers’ Jams occur the first Sunday of every month from noon until 2 p.m.

Again, the September jam will take place on Sept. 6 and the Ely Marketplace will join the Oct. 4 event.

DAVIS, Calif. – USDA Rural Development announced today affordable mortgages are available for low-income homebuyers in rural California.

Mortgage loans are made directly from USDA Rural Development through the agency's Single Family Housing Direct Home Loan Program.

“This is a great program that helps folks who have good credit and a steady income, but can't get traditional financing,” said USDA Rural Development Single Family Housing Program Director Ron Tackett. “Many will find that their mortgage payment is equal to their rent, so it just makes sense to buy.”

Highlights of USDA Rural Development's program include no down payment, no mortgage insurance, and interest rates as low as one percent for eligible buyers.

Homes must be located in rural areas, generally communities of 35,000 or less, and must be modest in size. Loan limits will vary by location, as will income limits.

Homeownership provides a strong foundation to help build household wealth, start a business or fund education through home equity.

Since 2009, USDA Rural Development has helped more than 3,300 homebuyers in rural California access the American dream of homeownership through this program.

Interested applicants in California can find more information, including a local office, online at www.rd.usda.gov/ca .

USDA Rural Development offers more than 40 programs supporting housing, community facilities, businesses and infrastructure in rural America.
