LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – Lake County Public Service’s Director Caroline Chavez announced that the Eastlake Landfill and the Lakeport Public Services office will be closed Thursday, Nov. 28, and Friday, Nov. 29, for the Thanksgiving Day holiday.

Lake County Waste Solutions' transfer station at 230 Soda Bay Road in Lakeport will be closed Thursday, Nov. 28, and reopen on Friday, Nov. 29.

Residential and commercial collection for those two days will occur one day after your normal pick up day.

Normal collection schedules will resume the week following the holiday.

Lake County Waste Solutions' transfer station will reopen on Friday, Nov. 29, from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The landfill will reopen on Saturday, Nov. 30, and the Public Services office will reopen on Monday, Dec. 2.

Normal operating hours at the landfill are 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily. The Public Services office is normally open Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, Flotilla 88 of Lake County, will meet on Saturday, Nov. 23.

The meeting will begin at 9 a.m. at the Konocti Bay Sailing Club building located at Braito's Marina.

The meeting is open to anyone 17 years or older who would be interested in joining America's Volunteer Life Savers.

NICE, Calif. – The Sons of Italy club announced that the Dec. 1 pasta feed is canceled.

The cancellation is due to the Thanksgiving holiday.

The group apologizes for any inconvenience.

LUCERNE, Calif. – The Lucerne Alpine Senior Center is hosting a free Thanksgiving meal on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 28.

The meal will take place from noon to 4 p.m. at the center, 3985 Country Club Drive.

Everyone is welcome.

It is a full holiday meal with all the trimmings, beverages and desert. Families are welcome. Individuals, groups, and couples will be seated for this delicious meal.

The free Thanksgiving dinner can use donations of food. Rolls, pies, whip cream, butter, brown sugar, spices, potatoes and turkeys are being accepted at Lucerne Alpine Senior Center, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday, through Nov. 25. Call 707-274-8779 to make arrangements to drop donated food items at other times.

Last year the center fed 301 people Thanksgiving dinner. This year it is anticipated that up to 500 individuals may attend. All donations are appreciated and cash is accepted for shopping expenses.

Want to help? Volunteers also are needed. Food preparation will start at 6 a.m., so helpers and cooks are arriving from that time through 10 a.m. Plan to work until 1 p.m. Servers need to arrive by 10 a.m. Dishwashers are needed all day and clean up will start at 3 p.m.

Anyone wishing to play music, sing or do readings is also welcome all day. Please call 707-274-8779 if possible to be put on the volunteer list, but feel free to come and help even if you haven’t notified anyone.

If you want an excellent Thanksgiving dining experience with food lovingly donated and prepared, come to the Lucerne Alpine Senior Center on Nov. 28 between noon and 4 p.m.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – The Lake County Green Party will hold its next meeting on Sunday, Nov. 17.

The group will meet from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Round Table Pizza in the Safeway Plaza on 11th St. in Lakeport.

The group will hear a presentation on climate change, Tim Williams will give his report on the General Assembly meeting in Santa Rosa and the group will vote on reducing what constitutes a quorum for voting.

There is no charge for the meeting and membership is not required to attend. Food will be available to order.

MIDDLETOWN, Calif. – Spirit of the Season will hold the last day of registration for this coming holiday season on Wednesday, Nov. 20.

Registration will take place from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Middletown Community United Methodist Church on Armstrong Street in Middletown.

Spirit of the Season provides a complete Christmas dinner of turkey and all the fixings plus gifts for children who are in high school or younger.

Bring proof you live in Middletown, Cobb or Hidden Valley Lake and proof of income in order to register for this Christmas program.
