Lake County News' “Veggie Girl” columnist and culinary instructor Esther Oertel will host “Tea Temptations: A Culinary Class and Tasting,” on Sunday, Aug. 7.

The class will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Chic Le Fleur, located in the Middletown Plaza at 21037 Calistoga St., No. 8.

For just $25, students will relax in the Parisian tea shop atmosphere of Chic Le Fleur while Oertel demonstrates how to make a delicious slate of summer foods utilizing a variety of teas.

Students will taste and enjoy each dish, which will be paired with the appropriate tea.

A solar energy workshop will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, July 16, at Ancient Lake Gardens , 8993 Soda Bay Road in Kelseyville.

The workshop will include the installation of a small, home scale photovoltaic system to learn about newly emerging battery technologies, innovative charging techniques, the basic principles of electricity, and how to source and install solar components.

Discover solar designs to grow food: solar-powered irrigation, fencing, fountains, and other functional water features to benefit gardens and landscapes.

The instructor is Brett Belan, an engineer who specializes in alternative energy and fuels, including Tesla technologies.

Highway 175

– Metal beam guardrail repair from 1.0 mile east of the Mendocino/Lake County Line to 1.7 miles west of Mathews Road will continue. Work hours are 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., weekdays. Highway 1

– Caltrans will perform routine maintenance from Little Lake Road to Ocean Drive. Work hours are 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.

– Highway widening and roundabout installation from 0.4 mile south of Boice Lane to just north of Ocean Drive will begin on Monday, July 11. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays. Contractor – Fedco Construction Inc. of Santa Rosa.

– Cal Fire has been granted a Caltrans Encroachment Permit to install a road approach about 0.7 mile east of Parlin Fork Camp Road. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.

– Bridge deck repairs at the Russian River Overhead and the Redwood Valley Undercrossing will continue. Work hours are 7 p.m. to 3 a.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays. Contractor – Wahlund Construction of Eureka.

Highway 101

– Bridge deck repairs at the Russian River Bridge just south of Geysers Road will continue. Work hours are 4 p.m. to 2 a.m., weekdays. Traffic will be restricted to one lane in each direction of travel. Motorists may experience minor traffic slowdowns. Contractor – Wahlund Construction of Eureka.

– Slide repairs north of the Korean War Veterans War Memorial Bridge will continue. Traffic will be restricted to one lane in each direction of travel 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Motorists may experience minor traffic slowdowns. Contractor – Argonaut Constructors of Santa Rosa.

– Installation of cable median barrier from the El Roble Overcrossing to the junction of routes 20/101 will continue. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., weekdays. – A pavement repair project from the Robinson Creek Bridge to Uva Drive will continue. Work hours are 4 a.m. to 3 p.m., weekdays. Traffic will be restricted to one lane in each direction of travel. – Installation of metal be a.m. guardrail from Reeves Canyon Road to the truck scales will continue. Work hours are 6 a.m. to 5 p.m., weekdays. – Brown and Caldwell of San Diego has been issued a Caltrans Encroachment permit for surveying near the South Willits Overhead on Tuesday, July 12. A shoulder closure will be in effect. Motorists may experience minor traffic slowdowns.

– A bridge maintenance project at the Long Valley Creek Bridge will continue. Work hours are 5 a.m. to 2 p.m., weekdays. Traffic will be restricted to one lane in each direction of travel and motorists may experience minor traffic slowdowns. Contractor – Certified Coatings Company of Fairfield.

– Caltrans will perform routine maintenance from the Red Mountain Creek Bridge to the Mendocino/Humboldt County Line beginning Monday, July 11. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., weekdays. Traffic will be restricted to one lane in each direction of travel and motorists may experience minor traffic slowdowns.

Highway 128

– Brown and Caldwell of San Diego has been issued a Caltrans Encroachment permit for surveying from Con Creek to Road 150 on Thursday, July 14. A shoulder closure will be in effect. Motorists may experience minor traffic slowdowns.

– Culvert repairs from the Beebe Creek Bridge to the Sonoma County Line will continue. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 15-minute delays. Contractor – Team Ghilotti of Petaluma.

Highway 175

– Storm damage repair from 2.0 miles east of Buckman Drive to 0.4 mile west of the Lake/Mendocino County Line will continue. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., weekdays. Highway 222

– Replacement of the Russian River Bridge will continue. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control with a temporary signal will be in effect 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Motorists should anticipate 15-minute delays during work hours and five-minute delays at other times. Contractor – CC Myers of Rancho Cordova.

Highway 253

– Culvert repairs from Butler Ranch to the junction of Route 101/253 will continue. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 15-minute delays. Contractor – Team Ghilotti of Petaluma.

Work on all these projects is weather permitting and subject to change. Caltrans advises motorists to drive with caution when approaching work areas and to be prepared to stop at traffic control stations.

The Caltrans Traffic Operations Office has reviewed each project and determined that individual project delays are expected to be less than the statewide policy maximum of 30 minutes, unless noted otherwise above.

Christmas in July will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 16, at the youth center, located at 4750 Golf Ave. in Clearlake.

During the day of the event they will accept unwrapped toys at different locations.

The day will include fun for all ages – games, food including a barbecue, vendors, live music, a motorcycle run and the chance for children to tell Santa their wishes for this coming Christmas.
