LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – The Konocti Lioness Club recently made a donation to help homeless children in Lake County.

The club gave $500 to the Safe House of Lake County, which houses homeless teens.

Konocti Lioness Club President Anna Jones presented the $500 check to Karen MacDougall, who accepted on behalf of William MacDougall, president of Lake Community Pride Foundation.

NICE, Calif. – The Sons of Italy club in Nice will be having a Cinco de Mayo theme dinner dance in their hall on Saturday, May 12.

It will be a complete Mexican entrée including beans and rice, dessert, coffee or tea.

The bar is open for socializing at 5 p.m., dinner starts at 6 p.m. then dancing to Jim Williams starts after the meal.

The cost will be $15 for everything.

Everyone is welcome, no need to be a member.

NICE, Calif. – The Lake County Democratic Party will hold a Democratic candidate event, “Our Community, Our Voice, Our Vote,” on Saturday, May 5.

The event will take place from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Sons of Italy Hall, 2817 E. Highway 20 in Nice.  

In honor of Cinco De Mayo there will be Mexican food and a “no host bar” by the Sons of Italy.

There also will be a silent auction with interesting and fun items on which to bid.

Special guests planning to attend are Congressman John Garamendi, candidate for the new Congressional District 3; Assemblymember Mariko Yamada, candidate for State Assembly District 4.

There also will be local Democratic candidates, including Victoria Brandon, candidate for Lake County Board of Supervisors' District 1 seat; Anthony Farrington, who represents District 4 on the Board of Supervisors and is seeking re-election, and his challenger, Fred Langston; Joan Moss, candidate for the Board of Supervisors' District 5 seat, as well as Lake County Superior Court Department 1 judicial candidates Judy Conard, Mike Friel, Susan Krones and Mike Lunas.

Sponsors include Congressman Mike Thompson, state Senator Noreen Evans, State Assemblymember Wes Chesbro, state Assemblymember Mariko Yamada, Olga Martin Steele and Mary Heare Amodio.

KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – The Kelseyville Chiefs Cheerleaders are planning a car wash on Sunday, May 6.

The car wash will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Guido's Pizza, 5440 Live Oak Drive in Kelseyville.

Come out and support the cheerleaders as they raise money for the league.

KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – The Kelseyville Lions Club is hosting a pancake breakfast to benefit the Channel Cats and the Clear Lake/Kelseyville high school swim team on Sunday, May 6.

The breakfast will take place from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at 4335 Sylar Lane in Kelseyville.

The cost is $6 and includes pancakes, sausage, eggs, biscuits and gravy, juice and coffee.  

The team also is selling raffle tickets for a 2012 Yamaha Grizzly ATV valued at $5,600, which will be on display at the breakfast. Raffle tickets can be purchased for $20.

KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – Beautiful flowers and wonderful, warm, sunny weather were on the agenda on Sunday, April 22, when the Highland Springs Trails Volunteers hosted a Sierra Club Wildflower Hike at Highland Springs Recreational Area.

The 10 hikers wound their way up serpentine knolls, crossed seasonal runoffs, and meandered trails dotted with Bitter Root, Scarlett Larkspur, Fawn Lilly, and Serpentine Onion as well as Shooting Stars, Gold Field, Blue-Eyed Grass, and Ground Lily.  

Latin names were being tossed around as many of the hikers were well-versed amateur botanists.

Highland Springs Trails Volunteers has been recovering and maintaining the nearly 30 miles of horseback riding and hiking trails at Highland Springs for more than 10 years.  

Although members have been a presence and performed individual trail work at Highlands since the early 1990s, formal organization of public work days did not start until 2007.  

Recording of man hours worked began in 2010 with a total of 1,276 hours of trail work for that year with over 55 community members from multiple groups, as well as youth and senior.
