MIDDLETOWN, Calif. – The Acme Foundation thanks all those who donated, volunteered and participated at their “15th Anniversary Celebration of Caring” which took place on Sunday, Sept. 8, at Twin Pine Casino and Hotel Event Center in Middletown.

The delicious champagne breakfast was prepared and served by Twin Pine staff.

The event was organized and coordinated with the help of event coordinator Dawn Hummel and her assistant Leonard Castanuela, food and beverage supervisors Susan Dickey and Rebecca Henry, and overseen by restaurant food services manager, Jack Vos.

Founders Pat and Jon Meyer stated they were so impressed with the Twin Pine staff for being exceptionally accommodating in the preparation, set-up and service before, during and after the event that they reserved next year’s annual Acme Foundation Celebration of Caring again, at the event center.

Thanks are extended to K & J (John Zimmerman and Karen Gonsalves-Tuttle) for the wide array of wonderful live music they provided.

The Meyers said, “The event could not have happened without the help, enthusiasm and hours of work from Acme volunteers Yvonne Scott and Kristin Westcott from Clearlake Veterinary Clinic, Lilo Hansen, Paula Werner, Liz Daugherty, John and Lynn Styles, Ann Aldridge and Dorothy Aldridge.”

Besides Ann helping at the event, she along with Dorothy spent months behind the scenes from their Bay Area homes requesting donations from throughout the United States for the fundraiser.

Much gratitude goes to Lake County auction item contributors, Gregory Graham Wines, Langtry Estate and Vineyards, Kathee Toy, Inez Wenkus, Hawk and Horse Vineyards, Jacque Spiker, Clearlake Veterinary Clinic and Twin Pine Casino.

Ann Crail from Cookie Lee Jewelry and artist Karen Miller added variety to the event with their items that were for sale donating a portion of their sales to The Acme Foundation. In addition, they donated items for the silent and live auctions.

The proceeds from the live auction, silent auction, raffle and “The Acme Store” will be used to help continue providing grants to Lake County’s low income seniors and the disabled to help with the expenses incurred for the treatment of their seriously ill cats and dogs.

The Acme Foundation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. One hundred percent of net proceeds are given to qualifying grant applicants. The foundation’s Web site is at www.AcmeFoundation.org .

KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – The Lake County Rocket Club is set to resume weekly meetings at Taylor Observatory in Kelseyville starting Thursday, Sept. 19.

The club meets from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

The club is free to any Lake County student in grades fourth through eighth, whether they attend public school, a charter or private school or are home schooled.

Parents and other interested adults always are welcome to attend.

Last year the club members learned about aerodynamic principles and basic laws of physics as they made various rockets. They had two successful launch dates.

This year, club leader Bill Bordisso is focused on students building increasingly more complex rockets. He also hopes to take the group on a field trip to the NASA facility in the Bay Area.

The local pilot’s group, the Lake County Airmen’s Association, has invited the club to tour Lampson Field for an up close look at planes.

Students or parents interested in participating in the club can call Bordisso at 707-279-0923.

The Lake County Rocket Club is made possible by the combined efforts of the Lake County Office of Education and the Children’s Museum of Art and Science.
