KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – June is a busy month for the Rotary Club of Kelseyville Sunrise.
Front and center is an all-out effort to get ready for the Denim & Diamonds fundraiser. Club members are pulling out all the stops to make sure that the event is a fun evening and huge success. June is also the month that the Club bids farewell to its current President and welcomes the next one.
Tom Dodd, owner of California Exterminators in Kelseyville, is serving the last three weeks of his presidency amid the flurry of activity for the Denim & Diamonds event. Dodd has been a member of Rotary since joining in September 2011.
When asked why he joined Rotary, Dodd said, “I grew up on the receiving end of many charities. When I finally got to a point where I could give back, I looked at Rotary as a way to do so. I like the goals that Rotary has as far as giving. Rotary has a lot of good programs like ending polio and providing clean drinking water, meeting very basic needs throughout the world. The global aspect is pretty impressive. Rotarians with a single goal can accomplish great things. On a smaller scale, you can do that on a club level and better the community where you live.”
The club gave out nine scholarships to graduating seniors at the Kelseyville High School awards ceremony on June 6 and supported many other school programs. Members also painted the Kelseyville Community Center and created an initial fund to be able to apply for an international project in the future.
Dodd also noted, “I am happy that I am leaving the Club on solid footing with the roster of leaders for the 2019-20 year and a solid budget and high expectations to continue our good work”.
President-elect Rob Ishihara is getting ready to take the reins as President. Ishihara is a California licensed Realtor with Country Air Properties in Lakeport. He joined the Kelseyville Club two years ago at the invitation of Rotarian Allison Panella.
“Rotary provides me with a great opportunity to give back to my community where I grew up,” Ishihara said.
In addition to real estate, Ishihara is a noted photographer, with his artwork offered for sale on www.fineartamerica.com , at the Saw Shop Gallery Bistro and many other local establishments.
Ishihara has been the Rotarian contact for Kelseyville High School and Kelseyville Middle School this year for the Club’s Student of the Month program. He was also the chairman of the scholarship committee.
Ishihara said, “I believe it is great to recognize students for their achievements and their hard work and dedication. We invite their parents and their counselors to breakfast at one of our 7am meetings and let their counselors tell us about why they are such great students. They receive a certificate, gift certificates to Tutti Fruiti and the Lakeport cinema as well as a keychain light to light up the world.”
When he takes the reins as president, Ishihara has big plans for the year. “My big goal is to help feed kids in Kelseyville on weekends and during the summer when they do not have access to free meals at school. I hope to accomplish this by partnering with other organizations who are already involved in helping to feed the community and implementing a sustainable program to help feed the kids in our community.”
