LAKEPORT, Calif. – The Soper-Reese Community Theatre will host a Dec. 1 benefit for performing arts at Clear Lake High School.

“An Evening Soaring with the Cardinals” will take place from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1.

There will be performances by Clear Lake High School concert and dance bands, along with other exciting performers, live and silent auctions, and refreshments available for purchase.

The cost for general admission seating is $20 per person.

Special table seating is available at $250 for a table of six.

NORTH COAST, Calif. – The Annual KZYX Holiday Gift Auction will return to the airwaves for four evenings, Monday, Dec. 3, through Thursday, Dec. 6.

From 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. regular evening programming will be preempted in favor of this fast-paced and entertaining fundraiser for Mendocino County’s local public radio station.

They will be auctioning, live on the air to the highest bidders, a wide array of gift items – from arts and crafts, to goods and services.

All items are donated by local businesses, artists and craftspeople, and will be presented auction-style on the air, during timed bidding sessions.

Bids are taken by phone, with the proceeds benefiting Mendocino County Public Broadcasting.

Many items are available for viewing on the station’s Web site, www.kzyx.org .

A popular on-air event, the holiday auction offers listeners an opportunity to shop locally for the holidays and get great deals while supporting local public radio at the same time.

Auction coordinator Diane Hering invites area residents to tune in and catch the action, at 90.7 FM (91.5 FM in Ukiah and areas inland, 88.1 FM in Ft Bragg).

KZYX is a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation and depends on support from its listeners.

LOWER LAKE, Calif. – The Lower Lake Historical School Preservation Committee presents its annual Christmas Tree Lighting and Holiday Open House, Friday, Dec. 7.

The event will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Lower Lake Schoolhouse Museum, 16435 Morgan Valley Road.

The tree lighting ceremony will be at 6 p.m., followed by an old-fashioned sing-a-long around the player piano.

Bill Barrows also will grace the event with his guitar playing.

There will be homemade refreshments, holiday displays and merriment.

The museum is located at 16435 Main St. in Lower Lake.

LUCERNE, Calif. – A group of concerned Northshore organizations are banding together to host a free yard sale and “button soup” outreach at Alpine Park in Lucerne on Saturday, Dec. 1.

The event will begin at 2 p.m. at the park, located at 5985 Highway 20.

Participants are asked to bring a can of vegetables for the soup which will be served at the event.

Warm clothing and household items will be distributed and there will be an interactive homemade laundry soap demo with free samples.

Several local churches and businesses are participating to help identify the community needs and work together to meet those needs.

Rock of Faith Church has collected 100 pairs of new shoes to be given away.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – The Soper-Reese Community Theater’s Classic Movie Series presents “Pocketful of Miracles” on Tuesday, Dec. 11.

This film will be shown at the Soper-Reese Community Theatre, 275 St. Main St. in Lakeport, with a $5 donation per person gratefully accepted.

The doors open at 5:30 p.m. with the film starting at 6 p.m.

Directed by Frank Capra, this 1961 comedy stars Bette Davis, Glenn Ford, Ann-Margret and Peter Falk.

Davis plays Apple Annie, an apple peddler in New York City. She turns to one of her customers, Dave the Dude (Ford), when her daughter Louise (Ann-Margret) is set to return home with her aristocratic fiancé and she needs help keeping up a charade of being a wealthy socialite.

The Classic Movie Series runs on the second Tuesday of every month.

The Soper-Reese Community Theatre is a restored, historic, performing arts venue established in 1949 and seating 300 patrons.

Run by an all-volunteer organization, the theater operates under the guidance of the non-profit Lake County Arts Council.

The Soper-Reese brings dance, music, plays and poetry to all members of the Lake County community and to visiting tourists.

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – The Lake County 29ers Cribbage Club will meet Monday, Nov. 26.

The group meets every Monday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. – or later if there is a tournament – in the meeting room at the Lakeport McDonald's, 1400 Todd Road.

The Lake County 29ers Cribbage Club is affiliated with national and international clubs, including the American Cribbage Congress.
