Franklin V. Smothers, WWII Veteran, born June 28, 1929, passed away unexpectedly Aug. 7, 2012.

He was preceded in death by his two children, James and Janie; grandson, K.R.; and son-in-law, Gary Evans Sr.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years of marriage, Margaret; and his children, Frankie, Evelyn and Kenneth; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at 9 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 15, at Chapel of the Lakes Mortuary, Lakeport, with a graveside service to follow at Hartley Cemetery, Lakeport.

Christopher David Schultz
March 16, 1989 - August 4, 2012

Our beloved Chris passed away unexpectedly August 4, 2012.

Chris was raised in Lakeport where he enjoyed recreational activities such as Boy Scouts, football and baseball.

Loved by many he will be remembered for his kindness, friendly personality and big heart that matched his smile.

Chris worked in landscaping and got satisfaction from doing a job well done, but the light of his life was his son Philodice, whom he dedicated his life to providing a happy loving home.

Much of Chris' enjoyment came from being outside, teaching his son new things such as swimming, fishing and taking him around town to explore on his bike and tractor.  

Chris was a great friend and extraordinary father who will be missed by many.

Christopher is survived by his son, Philodice Schultz; parents, David and Carmen Schultz; sisters, Julia (Marc) Arteaga and Sarah Schultz; plus many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, at Chapel of the Lakes Mortuary, Lakeport.

Bobbie Brown, born in Baskin, Louisiana, to E.J. Brown and Sadie Garner on Jan. 19, 1933, passed away Aug. 1, 2012 at the age of 79.

In 1951 he volunteered for the military service where he served for eight years, including serving in the Korean War until 1953. He spent the remainder of his military career stationed at the Presidio in San Francisco.

While he was in San Francisco he became a member of the Transport Workers Union of America, Local 250 and dedicated himself to working with the Union in trying to improve benefits and working conditions for its members.  

In 1975 Bobbie was appointed and thereafter elected division chairman, union vice president and executive board member, a position he held for 13 years.  

In December of 1981 he was elected president and held that position until 1994 when he retired.

Among his career accomplishments were: Legislative Representative for the Local 250-A in 1979-1980; Director, Local 250-A Political Action Committee; Local Director,TWU California State Conference Political Arm of TWU which he helped organize, to name a few. There are many more over all throughout his career.

Bobbie Lee Brown was a positive force behind the strength and effectiveness of TWU Local 250-A, and its ability to serve as a model Local Union in the 1990s.

Bobbie Brown was preceded in death by his wife, Gladiola; two step-sons, Ricky and Randy; and three siblings, Jesse Harris, Bessie Harris and Betty Reynolds.

He leaves to cherish his memory two daughters, Cheryl Lewis and Kimberly (Cebram) Roston; step-daughter, Brenda Judge; three sisters, Edna Harrison, Amy (Robert) Davis and Annie-Mae Harris; one brother, Andrew Harris Jr.; four grandchildren, Savannah, Bobby, Darnay and Shannah; six great-grandchildren; nieces, Felicia (David) Walker, Joyce, Helen and Bobbie; nephews, Gary Polk and Marcus; and a host of friends.

Bobbie’s services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 10, at Chapel of the Lakes Mortuary, 1625 N. High St., Lakeport.

James “Leroy” Benefield, a longtime Lake County resident, passed away Aug. 7, 2012, after a brief battle with throat cancer.

Leroy, as he was known, was born Dec. 5, 1932, in Wardville, Okla. to Edd and Alice Benefield.

He retied from Piedmont Lumber Truss in 1993. He always had a love for cars, either racing them or buying and selling or even just admiring them.

Leroy is survived by his daughters, Rhonda (Tim) Earley and Cheryl (Tim) Morin; grandchildren, Brandon and Terra Morin and Kyle and Kendra Earley who labeled him “Lakeport’s Perfect Papa.” He also is survived by his sister, Pauline Hamner, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy.

Leroy will be remembered by many by his straight shooter talking, his bright blue eyes and his positive attitude.

“Hope for the best and deal with the worst” are words he lived by.

The family prefers donations in his memory be made to Lakeport’s Meals on Wheels in c/o the Lakeport Senior Center.

Tina Gayle Duncan, the life of the party, first to throw confetti and always got the “last tag” has joined her grandmother, Colleen, Aunt Marilyn, niece Erika and other loved family members in heaven.

She has devoted her life to the Lord and loving her surviving family; two daughters, Tiffany and Nika; her mother, Bernadine; grandfather, David; brothers and sisters, Clint, Regina, Toni, JR and Terri; and many more loving family members.

As dedicated member of the community she has always been a fun loving employee, friend and outgoing free loving spirit.  

In her 13 years as a bingo clerk she has touched many lives and has appreciated the friendship bestowed upon her.

She will always be remembered by her family as a trusting, open hearted, strong Native woman who has fought for the ones she loves and believes in.

Services honoring Tina’s life will be held at 10 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 12, at Robinson Rancheria Education Center. Graveside services will be held at noon at Robinson Rancheria Cemetery on Mockingbird Lane in Upper Lake.

Terri Lynn Barker (Parker) passed away Aug. 6, 2012, in Lakeport, Calif.

She was born in Peoria, Illinois, on Oct. 5, 1944.

Terri spent her early years in Southern California before moving to Lake County in the 1980s.

She was a loving mother to Jennifer Alexander and Sean Nugent of Kelseyville; sister to Todd Parker of Encino, Calif. and Randy Parker of Chatsworth, Calif; grandmother, aunt and friend to countless people; and a direct descendant of American pioneer Daniel Boone.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff and residents of Evergreen Lakeport Healthcare for their years of care and compassion.
