LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – Kayla passed away unexpectedly on Jan 31, 2021, at the age of 30.

Kayla was a beautiful girl with a heart of gold.

Kayla enjoyed spending time with her children, gazing at the stars, cooking, going on walks and spending time talking with people on the phone.

Kayla was predeceased in 2019 by her grandfather, Ray Snyder, whom she adored very much.

Kayla is survived by her fiancé, Jason Lopes and their three children, Fallon, Zarrin and Ellizabeth; her parents, Craig Snyder and JoAnn Pavlish; and many other family members and siblings that loved her deeply.

Kayla will remain in our hearts and will never be forgotten.

KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – Richard Edmund Carsner, 77, died Feb. 1, 2021, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

He spent the previous 11 months valiantly undergoing treatment for a very aggressive brain tumor.

A celebration of his life is planned for the spring, with details to be announced.

Rich was born in Oakland, California, on Oct. 30, 1943, to Edmund and Marjorie Carsner. He grew up in San Francisco and was a true native Californian, with the families of both Julio Carrillo and General Vallejo as his ancestors.

Rich was a graduate of Sonoma State (BA Physical Education, 1966) and then completed a postgraduate curriculum in physical therapy at Stanford University in 1967.

While at Sonoma State, Rich lettered in tennis, a sport that he continued to support and enjoy throughout his life as an athlete. He was a gentleman on and off the court.

Rich worked as a staff therapist and Rehab Department Director at Santa Rosa Community Hospital for many years. In 1996 he moved to Ukiah and worked as an inpatient physical therapist at Ukiah Valley Medical Center until his retirement in 2008. He was recognized for his competence, humor and compassion throughout his long career.

Rich and his wife, Jenny, relocated from Mendocino County to Lake County in 2012 and spent many hours enjoying Clear Lake on their boat with Buster, their much-loved border collie.

Rich is survived by his beloved wife of 22 years, Jenny; children, Angela Carsner (Joe Corrick) of San Francisco, Adam Benjamin Carsner of Monte Rio, Samuel Carsner of San Francisco, Emily (John) Chavez of Seattle and Sarah (Alex) Stewart of Atascadero; brothers, Ronald Carsner of Deming, New Mexico, and Bradley Carsner of Healdsburg; sister, Jennifer Toney of Santa Clarita; his grandchildren, Nathan, Angelina, Thomas, Bruce, Samuel, Jack and Ava; former spouse, Carol Carsner of Monte Rio; along with multiple nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Donations to Hospice Services of Lake County are kindly requested in lieu of flowers.

Shirley L. Woodward (Ellis)
1921 – 2020

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – Shirley was the oldest living member of the Ellis family of Clearlake, California, at age 99.

She was born to Phil Ellis Sr. and Myrtle (DeVecci) Ellis on Feb. 23, 1921, in San Jose, California. They lived in San Francisco, California, until Shirley was 6.

The family moved to Clearlake in 1927 and that is where Shirley lived most of the remainder of her life.

Shirley is remembered for being a loving and caring woman with a sense of humor and smile that always lit up a room. We all love and miss her so very much.

After moving to Clearlake Shirley attended Burns Valley Elementary School. She later would graduate from Lower Lake High School. There she met her sweetheart, Harold Martin. They had a long courtship before Harold was inducted into the U.S. Army.

While on furlough, Shirley and Harold were wed on March 4, 1944, in a lovely evening ceremony in the Lower Lake Community Church.

Within the year a son, Gary Ellis Martin was born on Dec. 11, 1944. Two years later on Oct. 26, 1946, a daughter, Cherie Lee was born to the Martins.

Shirley taught Sunday school at Clearlake Highlands Methodist Church, became active in the community, worked outside the home and loved working in her yard. She enjoyed bowling, joined the Order of the Easter Star and traveled with her parents.

In 1964, Shirley went to work for Bank of America in Lower Lake as a pro-assistant cashier. After 18 years, Shirley retired with the title branch administration officer at the Lower Lake branch. There was quite a celebration for her held at the Elks Lodge in Clearlake.

For many years, Shirley was an active member of the Community United Methodist Church in Lower Lake. She also volunteered in the church thrift shop for nearly 20 years.

Shirley loved to play bingo the most, but she also enjoyed playing cards, and going on road trips with her best friend Helen.

Shirley was fortunate in her later years to find love again with Robert l. Woodward. They were wed July 24, 1993. She always said she saved the best for last.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Phil and Myrtle Ellis; brothers, Phil Ellis Jr. (Rae), Keith Ellis (Evelyn) and Don Ellis (Patricia); sister, Burdette Pontier (Tony); ex-husband, Harold Martin; son, Gary E. Martin (Carol); and her beloved husband, Robert Woodward.

Shirley leaves behind her daughter, Cherie Carr of Clearlake; granddaughter, Brenda Ahart (Keith) of Lakeport; grandsons, Gary Dean Martin (Kathleen) of Elk Grove, John Beason (Melinda) of San Jose, Adam Beason (Mary) of San Diego and Nathan Beason of Los Angeles; great-granddaughters, Kaylee, Korie, Gianna and Olivia, and great-grandson, Bubba; as well as six nephews and two nieces.

Shirley’s family would like to thank all who sent cards and other expressions of love during this time of mourning.

Jan Moran
Jan. 11, 1935 - Feb. 12, 2021

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – Jan passed away Feb. 12, 2021, to be with the Lord and her only true love, Larry.

Jan and Larry were married for over 60 years. They met on a blind date when they were 17 years old, and were never apart from each other until Larry's death in 2015.

Jan is survived by her two sons, Barry and Gary, and daughter-in-law Evelyn. Jan also left six grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Jan loved being with her family and friends. Larry and Jan loved to travel to out of area friends and family and stay with them whenever possible.

Jan would do anything for her family and friends. She loved organizing dinners and holidays, within the family, known as the Little General.

She will be greatly missed, but we know that she is much happier now.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – Ron Purdy, age 69, of Lakeport, passed away unexpectedly on Feb. 5, 2021.

Ron was born May 15, 1951, in Oakland, California, to Gordon and Jacqueline Purdy.

He spent the majority of his childhood growing up in the small town of Alameda, California, where he attended Lincoln Middle School and Alameda High School. He excelled on the swim team and was a lifeguard at the Lincoln Park Pool. Ron was also a school band member and enjoyed playing a variety of instruments all his life, particularly the baritone saxophone.

Ron’s family spent weekends and summers at Clear Lake and Ron began his lifelong habit of making local friendships and learning all he could about the area and life at the lake. He always loved Clear Lake and wanted to spend as much time as possible there.

He met his wife, Gloria (Stark) Casebeer, at Tucker’s Ice Cream in Alameda where he worked as a teenager. They dated briefly and then didn’t see each other for almost 20 years. They were reunited in October 1996, married the next year and made their home in San Leandro.

Ron spent his career at Metropolitan Elevator as an elevator technician and later as a partner in the business. He retired in 2007 and he and Gloria moved to Ron’s beloved Clear Lake where they settled in Lakeport.

Ron was well-liked everywhere he went, making friends of all walks of life. Ron was a wonderful person who touched the lives of those around him. He loved to laugh, joke and visit with friends. He was a generous friend and neighbor, offering his help whenever and wherever it was needed. Ron enjoyed tinkering with cars, trucks, boats – anything with a motor!

Ron also offered his assistance to the instrumental music program at Lakeport Elementary, middle and high schools. Ron was devoted to the students, repairing their instruments and tutoring them in the proper way to play. He was fond of buying used instruments and repairing them for use at the schools.

For many years Ron played the saxophone with the worship team at United Christian Parish in Lakeport; he also participated in multiple community bands.

Ron is survived by his wife of 23 years, Gloria Purdy; their son, Ron Purdy Jr. (RJ); stepsons, Ben and Erik (Tricia) Casebeer; brother, Don (Carolyn) Purdy; and sister, Pam Hefner, along with nieces and nephews, in-laws and outlaws.

He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Gordon and Jacqueline Purdy. Ron leaves behind many dear friends and neighbors at the lake who made his life so full.

Ron was a force of nature living life on his own terms. He is deeply loved and will be sorely missed by many.

John Glenn Wilds
Feb. 14, 1963 – Jan. 14, 2021

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – John passed from a swift and brief illness, with a brother by his side.

As John's soul peacefully left his earthly body, Kyle Wilds delivered loving messages and shared music from other surviving siblings: Laura (Steven) Rethemeyer, Linda (Ron) Beltz, Leanne Wilds (Mike), Max Wilds and Elizabeth Wilds.

He leaves six nieces and nephews, a great-nephew, many extended family members and friends, and a companion dog.

A long-time resident of Lake County, from a family that spans back four generations, John is predeceased by his parents, George and Evelyn Wilds and brother, William, who died in infancy.

John was a kind man, both to those he knew well and to many who simply crossed his path. A good listener and conversationalist. An explorer at heart … a lover of nature, watcher of night skies, dreamer of other realms.
