LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – Jadie "Jay" Sullivan was born on Jan. 24, 1934, in Tulare, Calif., to Jadie and Leoma Sullivan.
On Jan. 12, 2016, at age 81, he passed away after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.
Jay moved to Lakeport as a young boy, around 1947, attended school in Lakeport, and lived here all of his life.
He was in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1955 and was a veteran of the Korean War, where he served on the USS Fletche DDE 445 as 1st Class Machinist Mate.
In 1996 Jay retired from Kelseyville Lumber as store manager. He had also worked for Diamond Match, Piedmont Lumber and Pacific Lumber.
He served as a master of the Hartley Masonic Lodge No. 199 twice. He also served on the Lakeport City Council in the 1970s.
He loved pheasant hunting, fishing, skin diving and camping, as well as his dogs and all animals.
After he retired he and his wife Nancy spent time traveling in their RV and fishing at the coast.
Jay is survived by his wife of 61 years, Nancy; his children, Greg (Terrie) Sullivan of Lakeport, Karen Olaguez of Windsor, Lori Peters of Lakeport and Marci Hill of Healdsburg; grandchildren, Tara (Aaron) Olaguez-Krug, Lauren (Joe) Dwyer, Casey Sullivan, Adam Peters, Aaron Peters, Darrin (Dana) Hill, Valoree Sullivan and Justin Peters; great-grandchildren, Jayden Vera, Mia Vera, Klare Dwyer and Katie Dwyer; sister, Anita (Lorin) Boyd of Ukiah; and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded by his brothers Donald and Lloyd Sullivan.
A memorial service will be held at Chapel of the Lakes Mortuary, 1625 N. High St. in Lakeport on Saturday, Jan. 23, at 2 p.m. with a reception following at the Lakeport Senior Center, 527 Konocti Ave.
