LAKEPORT, Calif. – Josephine Paula Volpe passed away peacefully at the age of 82 surrounded by her loving family.

Josephine was born in Brooklyn, New York, to James and Josephine Macagnone. She was one of four sisters, Roseanne, Josephine, Annette and Diane. She graduated from Prospect Heights High School and studied fashion design in Manhattan.

In 1955, she married the love of her life, Frank Volpe, whom she met at 16. They were married over 60 years, until Frank’s death in 2015.

In 1973, Josephine and Frank moved their family from Long Island, New York to San Jose, California. Josephine worked as a buyer for a tech company in the Silicon Valley until 1983 when they moved to Half Moon Bay, California. Together, they ran their own company, Volpe and Sons Construction, building and renovating beautiful homes in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Retirement was good to Josephine, as she spent it with her husband Frank in Lakeport. They lived their dream on the lake, boating, visiting and making memories with their growing family, their four children, seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Josephine was a phenomenal seamstress, able to design clothes by altering patterns. She was also a fantastic cook and loved to garden, growing many of her own vegetables.

Josephine follows her husband, Frank, and daughter, Lisa, into God’s Heaven. She is survived by her children, daughter, Valerie and husband Harold, son, Michael and wife Kim, son, Frank and wife Paula and son-in-law Harold; her grandchildren, Shanon and wife Roberta, Paula and husband Johnny, Michelle, Lara, Paul, Ana, Monica, Sally, Cristina and Derek; her great-grandchildren, Brieana, Noah, Tyler, Jacob, Sophia, Phoenix, Dylan and Mila; and her great-great-grandchild, Dawson.

Josephine will be missed but never forgotten. Her love will live on forever in those she loved.

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – On March 18, 2020, George Joseph Guardado (Papa George) passed away after a long journey of battling and suffering with many severe illnesses.

He was born Feb. 6, 1951, in St. Helena, California. He grew up the Napa Valley, played multiple sports through high school, was once playing for varsity when only old enough for JV, and graduated at St. Helena High.

As a teenager/young adult, he was a landscaper. He had such a love for plants, at one point, he was the second runner up in Sunset Magazine for best landscapes. He managed to work his way up from landscaping into building and he helped expand the “Roman Spa” in Calistoga, California. He was able to build a home for his family from the ground up.

In his late 30s or early 40s, he decided to continue studying and was able to acquire his general A & B contractors license, engineering license, and his C54 tiling and flooring license. He then started his own business and began remodeling homes. All of the remodeling was done after he had had 26 surgeries on his ankles that he had shattered in 1986. He was dedicated to supporting his family and the absolute hardest worker.

Fishing was his ULTIMATE passion! He could and would tell you and show you anything and everything there was to know. He owned any and every hook, string or pole that was possible. He had monthly, sometimes weekly fish fries for the entire family and/or friends.

He was always about family and loved the gatherings. He loved all of his children more than anyone will ever imagine and would do anything for each and every one of them. He was one of the greatest fathers, uncles, brothers, mentors and friends. He had the biggest heart and was supportive in any way he could be to anyone that he crossed paths with.

“Papa George” is survived by his wife, Linda Crail; his mother, Julia Martinez; his four siblings, Nadine, Rosemarie, Joseph and Kenneth; his children, Laticia, Ada Rose, Kenneth, Alicia, Vanessa and Georgina; and so many very special and important nieces, nephews, and cousins who all have their own close connections with him.

There are so many people that we would love to list but there are just so many lives that George touched to do so.

Anyone who knew George knows that his wishes were to be cremated. We will be honoring his wish.

At this time with the chaotic issues going on in the world we are unable to do a service. A celebration of life will be held at a later date in which we will inform all friends and family to attend.

We are asking that anyone wishing to help with cremation donations/in lieu of flowers and memorial service costs make them to https://www.gofundme.com/f/laying-george-joseph-guardado-to-rest .

Nancy Jane Hardister (nee Sohm)

Nancy passed peacefully on Friday, March 13, 2020, at Santa Cruz, California, after a long battle with respiratory disease.

She was born in Staten Island, New York, to Frances Edythe Billard and Milton Frederick Sohm on December 14, 1941, just one week after Pearl Harbor and the beginning of World War II.

She joined older sisters Ann and Vivienne and their father passed away shortly after her birth. Her mother remarried several years later and the family moved to California, where they settled in Brisbane.

During her childhood they resided in various locations around the Bay Area, including San Jose, Los Gatos, Sunnyvale, Palo Alto and Mountain View, where Nancy attended Mountain View High.

She married Kenneth Overstreet and had a son, Kenneth Jr., on Oct. 22, 1961. That union ended and her subsequent marriage to Woodrow Flud produced her beloved daughter, Kimberly Ann.

She lived for many happy years in San Martin, California, where she reveled in the country life with horses, goats, chickens, dogs and other creatures. Her home was the site of many happy holiday and summer gatherings, where she welcomed all with good humor and generosity.

She eventually moved to Lucerne, California, where she resided for many years, and most recently to Boulder Creek, where she joined her daughter, Kim’s family.

She adored her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and was devoted to her sisters, brother, brothers and sister-in-law, nieces, nephews and extended family. She loved making quilts for all of the new babies arriving and for her sisters and friends at holidays, and was famous for her white angel cookies at Christmas. She had a lifelong love of country music.

We will miss her unique personality – loving, smart, funny, caring, generous, feisty. She made friends everywhere with her kindness and good humor.

Nancy was predeceased by her dear son, Kenny, and beloved sister, Vivienne.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Kim Markey (Steve); sisters, Ann Sohm Bastovan, Virginia Van Zandt (Jim Bruen), Elayne Merz and Elyssa Emerick (Glen); and brother, Walter Siebeneicher (Cam).

Her survivors also include grandchildren Trinity Carlos (Alvaro), Charity Sohn, Kayla Rebolledo (Gustavo), Amanda Campbell (Dave Morosco), Stevie and Christopher Markey, and great-grandchildren Kane, Jade and Bella Carlos, Gustavo, Caroline and Giovanni Rebolledo, and soon-to-arrive baby Evelyn Morosco, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and devoted friends.

Plans for a celebration of Nancy’s life are pending.
