MIDDLETOWN, Calif. – Charles M. Crofoot, 81, passed away on Oct. 18, 2020, at home.

Charles was born Sept. 7, 1939, in San Diego, California, to Charles and Mildred Crofoot. He grew up in San Diego and Rodeo, moving to Cobb in his junior year of high school.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and family gatherings, and was known for his sense of humor.

He worked for Kelseyville Lumber and Foremost Dairy prior to owning and operating Crofoot’s Chevron & Tow Service, retiring in 2001.

Charles is survived by his wife of 61 years, J’net; daughters, Donna Crofoot and Penny McIntosh (husband Robert); grandsons, Charles Matteo (Shayla), Joshua McIntosh, Jonathon Seda (Kimberly) and Robbie McIntosh (Katelyn); and great-granddaughter, Emma Charlie Seda.

His wishes were to be cremated and his ashes spread in Crofoot Gulch. No services are planned.

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – Cherry Keller was a Lake County resident her whole life.

She spent many years being a landscaper with her best friend Jim.

Cherry was a feisty woman who also enjoyed being a part-time bartender where she became friends with many people.

She enjoyed a good game of dice and a couple cold Coors, and some would say, she was a pool shark.

Cherry leaves behind her son, Rodney Durbin; daughter, Tracy Lampela; grandsons, Austin and Delbert Lee; sister, Terry Washington; niece, Lisa West; and many friends.

Cherry will be missed by many! We’ll see you on the other side!

NORTHERN CALIFORNIA – With a prayer request and a blessing on Oct. 27, 2020, Lylise LaRue Gernert entered into eternal rest, joining her loving husband, Bob Gernert; their daughter, Christine Parks; her parents, sister, brothers and other lost loved ones.

She was born Oct. 14, 1927, in La Crosse, Wisconsin, to William and Josephine Pierce.

Lylise passed peacefully under the compassionate care of the staff at Dalistan Care Home in Ukiah.

She treasured her large family. She and Bob enjoyed RV travel with friends and living in Yuma, Arizona, following retirement from Safeway. She was active with St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lakeport and guided by her faith in God.

Lylise is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Shepherd, and husband, Herb, of Oakdale, California; son, Bob Gernert, and wife, Trudi, of Ukiah; son, Gary Gernert and wife, Patti, of Santa Rosa, California; daughter, Kelli Holder and husband, Bob, of Sonora, California; and son-in-law, Alan Parks of Mulino, Oregon.

She leaves 16 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and several “bonus family” acquired along the way.

Lylise will be laid to rest beside her husband at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery. Services will be held once the COVID-19 threat eases.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – A. L. Reynolds, Jr., 79, of Lakeport passed away suddenly on Nov. 1, 2020.

Al was born in Gallatin, Missouri, on Dec. 21, 1940, to Alva Lee Reynolds Sr. and Virginia Lee (Reynolds) Eastwood.

Al moved to Lakeport where he started the first grade, graduating from Willows High School.

After graduation, Al enlisted in the United States Marine Corp serving from 1959 to 1962 at Camp Pendleton. During this time he was deployed to the Cuban Missile Crisis, he was proud to be a United States Marine.

In 1961 he married his best friend and love of his life, Judie (Zuur) Reynolds.

Al and Judie had a wonderful marriage of 59 years and were blessed with four children, two girls and two boys. They lived most of their early marriage in Santa Rosa, raising their children where Al worked as a parts runner for Bishop-Hansel Ford before becoming a parts manager. Al worked for several Ford agencies retiring his career at Ukiah Ford.

In 1982 Al wanted to move back to Lakeport where he grew up. Al opened the Bicycle Rack; he and Judie together were co-founders of the first BMX race track in Lakeport.

Upon retirement he enjoyed watching his boys play sports, becoming a papa, collecting Roy Rogers memorabilia, volunteering at the senior center, delivering flowers for Flowers by Jackie, ushering at St. Mary's church and volunteering at the California Highway Patrol office in Lake County.

Al was a very active and youthful guy. He enjoyed many things: camping, fishing, dirt bike riding, 1970s Oakland A's games, driving race cars at the Lakeport Speedway, walking his dog Bodie, and restoring many old cars over his lifetime. Al played an integral role in bringing CYO basketball to St. Rose school.

What made Al the happiest was his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents, Alva Sr. and Virginia; his son, Kyle Reynolds; and sister, Rita Collins.

Al is survived by his wife of 59 years, Judie Reynolds; his daughters, Kristin Reynolds and Kelly (Robert) Schmidt; son, Kory (Julie) Reynolds; brothers, Monte Reynolds, Gary Eastwood and Jerry Eastwood; sisters, Verna Petershon; nine grandchildren, Justin, Jennifer, Kari, Meghan, Jason, Hillary, Katie, Kelcie and Kortnie; nine great-grandchildren; aunt, Shirley Ray; numerous nieces and nephews; cousins; and dear friends.

Family prefers donations in his memory be made to the Kyle Reynolds Basketball Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 1312 Lakeport, CA 95453.

KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – On the evening of Oct. 28, 2020, Ricardo C. Cortez, 71, of Kelseyville, while surrounded by his family, passed away at Sutter Health Hospital in Modesto, California, due to complications from COVID-19.

Ricardo was born in Michoacan, Mexico, on Nov. 21, 1948, to Francisco and Felisa Cortez. He was the widower of Shirley Cortez. They shared 44 years of marriage together.

He was employed with Work Right Products of Lakeport, California, for 17 years, and later with Kelseyville Unified School District where he worked as the custodian for Kelseyville High School for a few years.

He was a member of the Lake County Rod & Gun Club where he won numerous trap shooting competitions, taking home the first place trophy buckles, and then later as part of the Konocti Gun Club he won a couple more. He also belonged to the Lake County Bowling League but mostly in his spare time.

For a few years, he coached little league baseball on the teams for which his sons played. Ricardo will forever be remembered for his most accomplished hobby of hunting, where the trophies lie in the memories, the telling of the stories of the hunt around a campfire, but most of all in the time spent with his friends, his nephews and his sons.

He is survived by his children, Rick Cortez, Jorge Cortez and Elisha Aguirre (Antonio); his grandchildren, Alondra, Erube and Antonio Aguirre, Felisa and Aryana Cortez, and Jorgie Cortez, Jr; his siblings, Baudelina Cortez, Theresa Cortez, Celia Moreno and Francisco Cortez (Martha), and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and compadres. He is also survived by his recent wife of 11 months, Maria Carmen Galvan.

Ricardo was predeceased by his wife, Shirley Cortez; his parents, Francisco and Felisa Cortez, and his brother-in-law, Jose Moreno.

Rosary and funeral Mass will be private.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – In loving memory of Howard K. Tate who passed on October 19, 2020, from late-stage leukemia.

Howard was born March 26, 1932, in Williamsport, Indiana, where he lived through his high school years.

After he graduated in 1950 he joined the Navy and was trained in communications.

Howard had a career of 20 years in the Navy and was stationed all over the world. During this period he was stationed, with his family in Guam, Imperial Beach, Japan, Philippines, Maine, Turkey, Morocco and Okinawa.

For a number of years, after he retired from active duty in the Navy, he worked in construction. In 1980 he went to work for the city of Huntington Beach Police Department as a property officer. Howard loved this position and had a great working relationship with the police officers and the many other city employees with whom he was involved. In 2002 he retired from the city to start a new phase of his life.

After living in Orange County, California, for many years he and his wife decided to find a more rural area for retirement.

In 2004 they visited Lake County and fell in love with its beauty. After looking at many homes in the area it was suggested that they build a home. They found the perfect lot in Lakeport and built their retirement home. Howard had many years in his home where he especially enjoyed the view of the mountains from the front windows.

Howard is survived by his wife, Nancy; his sister, Shirley Daniels, who lives in Watseka, Illinois; daughters, Vicky Bradley, Janice Hubley and Joyce Spencer; four grandchildren, Justin, Tracy, Craig and Ashley; and seven great-grandchildren. All of his children reside in Texas.

Howard had a wonderful sense of humor, an open heart and was grateful every day for all the blessings he received in his life.
