Leon Legrand, born Sept 9, 1920, in San Francisco, peacefully passed away March 21, 2013, at his Konocti Bay home with family, friends, and the hummingbirds, squirrels and the Oriole.
His wife, Dorothy, passed away Feb. 5, 2004, and has been waiting nine years to be rejoined with Leon. They were married 56 years.
Also known as “Frenchy,” Leon began his career as an electrician in Richmond, Calif. He moved the family to Konocti Bay in 1960. They owned and operated Konocti Electric until retiring in 2001. He loved that even in retirement, people would come by for help and parts which only he had and could find in his garage.
At his Konocti Bay home, neighbors called Leon the “Gate Keeper,” as he sat in the front of his home on the point, keeping watch over all the goings on of the neighborhood. Many of them have expressed sadness at not seeing him at his post.
Leon is survived by daughter, Adrienne (Jerry) Bahn of Woodland, Calif; son, Jim (Sue) Legrand of Las Vegas, Nev.; grandson, James (Elaine) Steele of Louisville, Ky.; and great-grandchildren, Danielle, J.J. and Zachary Leon, also of Louisville, Ky.
He was preceded in death by wife, Dorothy, and son, Tom Shelby.
The family thanks the following for their generous love and unwavering care: Debbie Schwartz, friend and caregiver; Edelweiss Guest Home (Linda and the girls); and Sutter Lakeside Hospital.
Private services with family well be held at a later date.
Donations can be made to the Lakeport Senior Center/Meals on Wheels.
